Reading Response to Serona Elton’s Love for Labels

In Serona Elton’s Love for Labels article she states that it is incredibly difficult for an individual artist to get their music out there and that it’s even harder if the artist doesn’t know the marketing steps to take to properly ensure that their music gets out there into the real word she also states “Given the choice, most artists would prefer to focus on their music and leave marketing and promotion to people who know what they’re doing.” that is why they need to be signed by record companies and find some common ground. Unfortunately record companies won’t sign new talent because the sales of music have decreases exponentially in the last decade thanks to the digital distribution of media and the internet now 9/10 American prefers to download the music for free and seriously hurts the music industry further hindering their ability to sing new talent. And in the off chance they do sign new talent and the deal doesn’t pan out according to plan, the recording company blamed for treating their artists unjustly and that isn’t fair at all. We as citizens should purchase more of the music that we enjoy as opposed to pirating it, as for artist who are signed by recording companies, they need to find a way to compromise their differences with recording companies so that through the buying and selling of digital media our economy gets just that much better.

Serona Elton fear is pretty understandable, what is happening in the music industry is very worrying. I have to say that i used to get digital music also, but since we can get into troubles by doing it i stop. however, the copies of the music i like are very expensive too in the stores. I consider that’s one of the major reasons most people decide to get digital copies.
