Folksonomy

Folksonomy also known as collaborative tagging is derived from the collaborative collection of information about individuals and is really big problem today. The reason Folksonomy is such a big problem today is because there are site like Google, yahoo, amazon, eBay, and Facebook that horde all of your personal information and attempt to sell u things or advise thing to you based on what they think your personal tastes and preferences are, and by engaging in this behavior they are directly violating our privacy by looking into what we searched up. I find it scary how i can post a status up on Facebook about going to play paintball or going snowboarding for the weekend and as soon as i refresh the page there are already advertisements in the side bar for cheap snowboarding equipment or buy 1 paint ball gun get another one free. I personally hate leaving footprints especially digital ones so the more I read Jessica Dye’s “Folksonomy: A Game of High-tech (and High-stakes) Tag,” the more angry I became. Folksonomy is like a spiderweb once your in your in for good and there is no escape and I believe that this type of digital monitoring must come to an end.

  1. I have also experienced and think it is scary how the advertisements on Facebook seem so directed toward some of my statuses. I hate the idea that, despite the fact that I can make my facebook page private to the public and direct my statuses to my friends only, my information can still somehow be sold to advertisement companies.
