ENG 1101 “City Limits” By Colson Whitehead

In the reading “City Limits” by Colson Whitehead shows us how he views his New York and how others may their Ny is different and better. Whitehead says that the “old Ny is more real than the new NY, What was there before is more real and solid than what is here now”. But he only says that because he likes his NY more then the NY now and its different for everyone. Each person has their own NY.Then he goes about telling us that he still calls what was there before that is there now. Like he wont say the name of the new building but its “The Pan Am building” he wont say its the Met life Building. he wont accept the NY he likes his old NY better than this one because its not “real” to him. Whitehead also says that whatever others tell you about NY is not always true until you experience it yourself. Whitehead’s NY may be different from others because there’s always people from different areas coming in to NY and changes everything about NY. Just like how he says that you could never say goodbye because you will never know when its gone. ” this place multiplies when you’re not looking. Something that was once you favorite spot is now something that you wouldn’t imagine it would be replaced. just exactly like he says ” we can never make proper goodbyes” because will never know until its gone when we actually see it has been replaced. Colson Whiteheads then talks about the old building that been there for a long time period and without those buildings there wouldn’t be a memorable NY. Some of the buildings create our NY.  “They are a part of the city we carry around”. The building have a purpose of being there juts like he says the twin towers were something that not everyone saw but it was something he experienced. New York will continue to grow and we might have a chance to say that our NY is more “real” than then the future NY juts like Colson Whitehead said.
