The author shows how Latifa was successful in her life career. And how talented she was. She was a singer and actress at the same time. She won prizes that have great value. She was also encouraging the women and defending her rights in the society.
Latifa was comparing her old life and her new life. And how she struggled and faced her old life despite the odds and the obstacles. She was living at the bottom and very poor. And she became famous and rich. The thing I liked about her is that she never forgets who she is.
Here Latifa is talking to African American women. They deserve a better life. They were slaves before and always were second class citizens. She wants them to feel they are queens. It does not matter who they are or how they live. They must feel their dignity to be in a better place. You have to believe in yourself to achieve your goal.
She is talking as she learned something from life. That the words are powerful and can do a lot. Words are like the sword can kill you. She always believes what she is singing. That’s why she kept her music positive.
She wants the men to learn how to respect women. Men need to stop cursing women. You make her feel low and do not believe in herself. And now there is a rule to prevent this from happening.
Here the author mentions females. To raise their spirits and their dignity. To set the men straight. And stop bullying them. The award that Latifah won was because of her song. The award was not important to her as awareness of females. Latifa’s goal was to build women up.
Latifa tells about a story that happened to her in her life. When a boy bullied her. She did not just go home crying. She went back to him and defended herself. Even if that didn’t go over well with the other boys. But she made her point. Her mother planted confidence in her.
Latifah is trying to plant confidence in all womens. She is saying that every lady there is a queen inside her. But it’s all about the person who must bring it out. It does not matter if you are poor or rich. Latifa here explains how to be a real queen. The queen that is facing all her issues and how passes her tests. But she never let her crown fall.
Latifah gives an example of real queen Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She saw her husband killed in front of her. There is nothing to describe this pain. However she gave strength to the entire country. The people do not remember her. Because of her wealth while for her grace in the face of adversity, for her generosity and charity.
Latifah is telling a story about her mother Rita Owen. And describe her mother as a queen. Because how her mother sacrificed for her children. She preferred to work three jobs and not sell out herself. Her mother was believing in her and planting confidence in her. That’s made her no one can snake her confidence.
Lastly Latifah tries to encourage the women who have no idea about what the queen is or never met a queen before. If you want to be a queen. You still can do it and be a queen. But you have to believe in yourself first. And know who you are. She knows who she is. She is feeling confidence. She loves and she sees that she deserves the title queen. So she is asking if you could do all of that to be a queen?
