Learning Self Analysis for BSN Program

The baccalaureate program I believe is vital to nurses development in the current state of transformation in healthcare delivery and practice.  The new skills that are required for nurses to function in today’s healthcare can only be gained through proper education. The BSN program taught me that nursing is a broad profession with tentacles in every aspect of life. Nursing is so diverse and has a significant role in the well being of society as a whole. The program taught me this, I can do more than be at the bedside. My skills can be utilized in different areas of nursing like community or public health. In a way I felt as if I was blinded and know I can see. My whole idea of the practice of nursing was so narrow. My associate degree program prepared me for the basics of the nursing. It gave me the ability to critically think, implement intervention, and practice clinical skill. It allowed me to function as a nurse, but it is vastly limited. In completion the BSN program I realize that nursing is very dynamic. We are researchers, practitioners, policy makers, leaders, advocates, teachers and mentors. The BSN program enables nurses to see the whole of nursing profession. It broadens the scope of practice in a way; open the door to different opportunities and experiences that leads to increase job satisfaction. It helps me to understand the views of the organization, become a more effective leader and educator and comfortable public speaker

Before the BSN program I would have never thought about doing a research project. But now I have two different projects that I am planning at my place of employment. The program has aided in providing confidence that I can play a role in various activities from research to quality improvement. The BSN program prepares me to utilize research and evidence based practice in the pursuit to improve the quality of care patients receive. The program has changed my way of thinking and has improved the level of care I deliver.
