Patient education, taught pediatric patients how to brush and floss.
As part of a dental hygiene student team, we assessed oral health needs, set learning goals, collaborated with local partners, developed engaging content, managed logistics, promoted oral health, and measured impact within the Head Start community.

March 1st, 2024 – Service Learning project, Oral Health Education for Preschool Children, Children’s Center, Namm G14, 300 Jay St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

During the patient education activity, I took the lead in teaching pediatric patients the importance of proper brushing and flossing techniques. My role was crucial in ensuring that each child received personalized guidance tailored to their needs and understanding.

Before the event, another student was responsible for gathering the necessary materials, including toothbrushes, interdental aids, and educational resources. During the session, we engaged with the children, using visual aids and interactive demonstrations to make the learning process fun and accessible.

I took the time to address each child’s questions and concerns, providing individualized feedback to help them improve their oral hygiene habits. By connecting with the children on a personal level, I was able to make the information relatable and memorable.

Overall, our contribution to the patient education activity helped empower pediatric patients with the knowledge and skills they need to maintain a healthy smile. It was rewarding to see the impact of my efforts as the children left the session with a newfound understanding of the importance of oral hygiene.
