Internship Experience

My Internship experience working in Transcendent Enterprise video production company was a unique opportunity. Transcendent Enterprise is own by Chris Alvarez a great leader and teacher, his company is dedicated in providing creative custom video products for any specific brand. Specializing in graphic animation for mostly corporate and educational institutions. The department that I was involved was in the filming and editing division. I was required to setup equipment such as camera and sound recording equipment in live events. This is called the post-production where the filming is first completed and then editing comes in to play.

We had to develop the projects in order to create a storyline and add content to the project like music, titles and graphic animations. The events I was able to attend were at NYU Tandon, 4A’s Conference and many more. I was able to meet creative and innovative people working in these locations. The objectives and goals I was expecting to gain from this internship was to understand the business part of a video production company since I have experience in creating animation and video projects. Learning the business aspect is important in order to be successful in this kind of industry, being able to market yourself or your company the correct way will make any business grow and make a good amount of revenue.

The skill I was able to apply and develop in this internship was to practice my creative skills in video production. Also being able to develop time organization to complete video project since there is a lot of time that has to be dedicated in finishing a video. I was able to work with client’s feedback and understand the structure of satisfying what the client needed on their videos. This is what made me developed new skills in providing the necessary content to satisfy the need and keep clients coming back.

This internship has helped me see the career aspect of an editor and the functions of a video productions company. Transcendent Enterprise has given me the opportunity to have a job working with them and hiring me in a future position as a creative director in their Company. Even thought my future goal is to have my own production company and making it a successful business by learning more about the marketing part of it. This is a great starting point in the development of my future. Advertising a business is one of the great ways to present to everyone what the company is capable of providing. Such as services and products that can benefit the growth of a business.

Majoring in Emerging Media Technology has thought me many skills. The classes in Video Productions, Graphic design, flash animation and Web Development have helped me acquire this internship position and the skills to work as a freelancer. I would recommend this internship to anyone who would like to start with some of the basics.

Learning the fundamentals of what an editor and video content creator does in the real business of a video production company is something necessary. Chris Alvarez has great patience and the ability to work with the skills you have, giving back great feedback. Anything you wouldn’t relate too he would take his time and explain everything step by step. Understanding the need for providing clients with what they want and having the patience to get the service complete to satisfy the customer. I’m looking forward to continue working with transcendent Enterprise.

This week at Transcendent Enterprise we had a different type of project of filming project. The project consisted of recording interviews of people for a promotional video for a company.  Once we got to the location the setup process begun. One of the important things is setting up for a shoot is deciding the location. When the location is decided the camera is placed and the lights have to be setup on the spot where the interviewer is going to stand or sit.  The location has to be marked since the camera set to focus on the person. When it comes to the lighting setup about three light have to be used to lit the subject correctly. I’ve also learned about the audio being very important. We had two different microphones. One of them was a shotgun mic and the other was a wireless lavalier mic. Shotgun  mic has to be mounted and plugged directly to the camera using a XLR audio cable. The wireless mic has a transmitter and a receiver. The lav has to be clipped to the subject in order to capture good sound. Seeing all the elements working together was interesting is producing a high quality video.

Week 9-10

I learned that researching what you’ll like to do for a long time in your life is important. Being able to make that decision at an early point in life can change how our future will be. At first I was lost and didn’t have a idea of what exactly I want to do and continue after college. I’ve set a goal and will try my best to accomplish it. I’ve obtained an internship in a Video Production Company (Transcendent Enterprise) its helping me understand the real world clients and time frame of how that corporate Video Editing companies function.

Week 7-8

Throughout this week I was able to look at the editing software that is used to edit video. One of the important steps is first to organize all the footage by the camera in different folder before importing into the editing software. The project I was helping was a promo video for NYU.

  • Organize and string together raw footage into a continuous whole according to scripts or the instructions of directors and producers.
  • Trim film segments to specified lengths, and reassemble segments in sequences that present stories with maximum effect.
  • Determine the specific audio and visual effects and music necessary to complete films.

Week 3-4

This week was the production week where I was able to go out with the production team to the conference event to setup camera and help record the presentations throughout  the day. The event started really early that day. The location was very nice conference room with big projection screens. The video team did a two camera setup. One camera was a closeup and one camera was a wide shoot at the back of the room. The camera had a special lens so it would be able to zoom in and out to capture the speaker doing their presentation. Understanding the way the camera works was a bit confusing at  first.  The conference event  was long and overwhelming since it started around 8:00 am and finished around 5:30 pm. Once we finished filming the presentations, we had to take down the equipment and package it up for the next day. The production process has a lot involved and it was a great learning  experience this week.

First week at transcendent Enterprise was interesting. The production company in the city mid town manhattan , a few blocks away from the Empire State building. Being  able to meet the production team was great. They were able to show me around the office space. The editing workstations were cool. I was able to check out the equipment they used, such as camera, lights and other equipment.  The second day of the week one I was able to see the planning process of one of the projects that they were going to work on throughout the week. The event was a conference with presentations. I was able to hear the setup of how many cameras are  going to be used. The planning process is important when it comes to video production.
