Your Week 0 checklist asks you to read the first few sections of your text. Section 1.1 outlines a few applications where differential equations are used. Comment on this post below and say which application(s) you are most interested in.
You may choose an application that is discussed in Section 1.1 or you may choose an application of your own. At this point, you do not even need to know whether differential equations actually apply to the particular topic you are interested in; you may comment something like, “I am interested to know if differential equations can be used to study [a topic you like].”
Your comment can be as detailed or as brief as you like.
A D.E. application that Aaron Libato is interested in:
Using differential equations to estimate the spread of a virus stands out to me due to the Coronavirus pandemic we are going through as well as how it could save us from future viruses such as our current Monkey Pox blight. Furthermore makes me think of the game Plague Inc.
The Differential Equation application that interested me the most is the ability to determine temperature changes. Not only within the body but also in a room and much more. It was interesting reading how objects have different thermal properties and about Newton’s Law of Cooling.
D.E application I am interested in:
I am interested to know if differential equations can be used in the data science field. How it can be used to study data.
The differential equations that interested me the most was Newton’s law of cooling. I find it interesting how it can be used for different applications like how it talks about body heat, to the heat that can be released in a room from metal cooling. I believe it can also be applied to servers rooms that need a ton of cooling for all the computers.
I’m really interested in how differential equations is used to calculate glucose consumption in the body.
I find Newton’s Second Law of Motion very interesting as someone who has always been curious about physics.
I am interested to see if Differential equation can be used in investigating problems in fluid mechanics, circuit design, heat transfer, Or how it applies to them.
My favorite application of differential equations is their use in determining the fluctuations of space-time itself.
I’m interested to know if differential equations has any connections with art forms like music and dance.
I took a finance class in the past and Differential Equations were referenced quite often, so I am definitely interested in their financial uses in the real world.
My favorite application of D.E was when the reading talked about calculating the birth and death rates of a specific population. I think it’s amazing that something that seems it can happen at anytime is predictable to a certain extent. I wonder, and differential equations be used to calculate rates of the sex of babies before they’re announced by a doctor?
The most interesting application to me is “Spread of Epidemics” because it is still relevant, and will continue to be relevant even after covid is “done”.
I am interested in know how differential equations are used in computer engineering.
My favorite application of D.E. is the fact that there is sections dedicated to heating/cooling, growth/decay, and springs as they are a regular part of our everyday lives.
