Destiny Kinloch Concierge Assignment

As Chief of the Park Central Hotel I prepared this training video to inform the concierge about The Museum Of Natural History as a historical tourist attraction.

For the concierge marketing assignment, I chose the American Museum of Natural History. It’s located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This museum has been around since 1869 and was created by Albert Smith Bickmore. It’s famous for their exhibitions, scientific collections and insight on the world’s cultures. Also this museum is the largest natural history museum in the world. It contains plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, human remains and cultural artifacts.

What did you like/dislike about the site visit to the Times Square Edition Hotel?

I liked how the hotel didn’t feel like a hotel. It made me feel very comfortable and calm away from the noise Times Square brings. Also the co-workers were like family instead of people that just work together. While they were telling us about the hotel, they seemed very passionate and it made me interested because that means they love their workplace. Everyone was happy and nice even if they weren’t the ones giving us the tour. Other members of the hotel wanted to make sure we knew certain information and that made me feel like everyone wanted to make sure we were satisfied and know every aspect of the hotel.

What was the most significant information you learned while at the Times Square Edition?

The most significant information I learned while at the Times Square Edition hotel was to not limit myself to one career path. There’s so many different roads to go down in this industry and a lot of opportunities for me to make connections until I find my passion. One of the representatives went to City Tech for education and has a career in human resources so that showed me that I can do anything even if I don’t focus on that while I’m in school.

When I started college, I was very confused. I didn’t have any idea on what I wanted to do and college is very different from high school. My high school treated the students like babies and it was very easy to get high grades. So coming into college, I was very stressed out and unprepared. I recently started taking hospitality management classes because I want to work in a hotel or in a restaurant. I want to work in a business and eventually open up my own. But I never worked before so I don’t know what it feels like to work in a business and I think this major will teach me the skills to succeed in this field. Also I am from Brooklyn, New York and people from here are extremely underestimated. I want to make a difference and become a wealthy person. I am a hard worker so I will do what I need to do to achieve my goals but my patience is something that constantly brings me down. I want things to happen quick so I can have a good life as I get older but I know it takes hard work and dedication to achieve my dream.
