Throughout my school career, I’ve written so many different types of essays and papers. There were some essays/papers that I loved and some that I hated to write. Is easier for me to do research papers or S.E.Qs than personal essays. Like the “big papers” I had to write this semester.

Staring with the first essay, writing an essay about a word that has a meaning to us. At first, I was really lost because is really hard for me to express myself with words, and write about personal things so I was really struggling with choosing a word. And compared to the last unit I knew what I wanted to do and how to showcase my idea, so I definitely saw an improvement there.

My assumption at the beginning of the semester about me and my writing was that I was going to not know how to maintain my quality of work, and give things on time since I procrastinate a lot. I’m not going to lie I did procrastinate a bit and the quality of my work wasn’t consistent, but it did improve throughout the units.

In all of the “big projects” that we did my favorite was definitely the unit 3. As it was more about creativity and I really enjoyed to make that video and being able to really express myself. My least favorite has to be 1 & 2. Unit one was the first unit so it was naturally hard, and Unit 2 the “research” part was a bot of a challenge for me which made me dislike it a bit. But I can say that I did enjoyed all lessons and it was definitely was my favorite class this semester, and I learned a lot of things and discovered new styles of writing, new techniques.

UNIT ONE

 “Taqdeer” is an Arabic word that means “predestination.” It refers to God’s announcement of the fate of all things before they were formed. Muslims had blind confidence in “Taqdeer.” Some people also refer to it as “taqdir.” Our view is that our destinations, or whatever we do, were predetermined before we were born. We also believe that everything that has happened to us, good or bad, has been caused by our “taqdeer.” And every Muslim is convinced of it. Also, whatever has happened or will happen to us has a cause, and we believe that everything happens for our benefit, even if it is terrible.

By stating this, I’m reminded of a tale relating to “Taqdeer” that I’d want to share.

One of my experiences let me grasp the significance of the “Taqdeer.” Because I had no idea or knowledge of “Taqdeer” before this happened to me. I used to go on a lot of motorcycle trips with my friends. And one day with my friends, we planned a long motorcycle trip. That plan was established for a week following the current day. Everything was going great, and we were really enthusiastic about the trip, so we began to prepare for it. Just the day before our vacation, in the afternoon, I became really ill, developed a high fever, and was extremely fatigued and dizzy. I couldn’t get out of bed and I became quite sad since I knew I wouldn’t be able to make the trip tomorrow due to the circumstances. When my mother saw me in such a circumstance, she recognized that I was upset since I couldn’t go on the trip the next day. “Look, this trip wasn’t in your “Taqdeer,” and don’t be unhappy because you aren’t able to make it to the trip,” she remarked, adding, “she also mentioned there is a purpose behind everything that occurred to us, and I think the reason will be beneficial.” But I didn’t like what she said to me at the moment, so I became even more unhappy since I couldn’t go on the trip, and she was saying everything that happened to me occurred for a purpose.

My friends left the next day without me since they had all prepared for this vacation and couldn’t cancel it at the last minute for me. I also informed them that if they went, we would make another plan for another vacation the next time. After a few hours, I received the news that one of our friends had been in a motorbike accident in which he was severely injured. That was the bike I was meant to ride. After hearing the news, I was horrified and worried that if I didn’t become sick last night, I might be in the same predicament. And I recall my mother telling me recently that everything that occurred to us had a reason.

Following this occurrence, I went to the hospital to see my friend who was involved in the accident. I observed he had bruises on his legs and shoulder. I asked him how this accident occurred. He replies, “After riding on the service road for 20 minutes when trying to merge into the highway, my motorcycle speed should have been 45MPH, but I was at a higher speed than the speed limit because I wasn’t able to ride on high speed for a long time because I was in the service road and I was bored, that time though I should ride on high speed as soon as I enter the highway, When I realized the road was clear as I approached the expressway, I increased my motorbike speed, and when I was merging onto the highway, my motorcycle speed was 20mph faster than the speed limit. After entering the highway, I spotted a large vehicle approaching at great speed in the right lane. And I was in the same lane as the truck, and when the truck driver noticed me, he slammed on the brakes so hard to prevent a collision, but his truck was moving fast, and my bike was moving fast as well, so we both slammed on the brakes to avoid an accident, The vehicle hit me from behind, and I fell from my motorbike and landed on the side of the road, but my motorcycle was demolished by the truck.”

I felt really upset after hearing this explanation of the tragedy from my friends and told him, “I am so sorry to hear what happened to you, don’t be unhappy, it was just bad luck, things will get better soon.”

But he said, “Everything happened because it was in my “Taqdeer,” and whatever is written in our “Taqdeer” will happen anyway, and no one can change it. I feel that whatever is written in our “Taqdeer” is beneficial to us. Because our God has never done anything bad for us. This accident was written in my “Taqdeer.” I may have been killed in this accident, and if I hadn’t collapsed off the motorbike, I would have died by now.

And this has taught me to be more cautious the next time I ride a motorbike, so I am not as upset; instead, I am grateful to God for saving me from death.”

This let me realize the significance of “Taqdeer” in our lives.

UNIT TWO

Things that aren’t useful to you, There are so many individuals that are starving for your worthless items.

When you waste food for no apparent reason or discard leftovers in the garbage. Have you ever considered that there are millions of people in the globe who are yearning for your leftovers or foods that you finally throw away? Every day, 811 million people go to bed hungry, implying that one out of every 10 people in the globe is hungry, a figure that is growing by the day. The planet generates more than enough food to feed the whole world’s population. And, if you’re wondering why there’s still so much hunger in the world, despite the fact that global food production is more than adequate to feed everyone, consider this: This hunger crisis is caused by a variety of factors.

There are several definitions of the term Hunger, and each person defines it differently. However, hunger is described as painful since this phase is defined primarily by a deficit of some or all of the nutrients essential to support an individual’s health. When we hear the word hunger, we think of people who don’t have enough food to eat or water to drink, but this word represents more than that because we all know people who don’t have food are called hungry people, but what most of us don’t realize is that people who are in this food crisis or food insecurity don’t know how long they have been without any kind of food, and they don’t even know where they are going to get their food. According to the UN-FAO, 790-811 million people globally are hungry. That implies that one out of every 10 individuals in the globe is food insecure. This figure rises by 8.9 percent per year. And it’s not only about people going to bed hungry every day because they don’t have enough food to eat, hunger kills. According to the FAO, up to 25,000 people die every day as a result of starvation. Because protein-energy malnutrition, which is defined by a lack of protein and an energy-giving diet, is the most prevalent cause of hunger, Although the effects of hunger affect people of all ages, small children are frequently the hardest victims. Under nutrition is a scientific term for the state produced by hunger and malnutrition. It raises disease load to the point that undernourished youngsters suffer from diseases for at least five months in a year since the condition decreases their immunity. The major cause of this issue is not a lack of food production; according to “The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,” the globe produces enough food to feed the whole world’s population. So, why is world hunger still a problem?
The causes of this difficulty are as follows:

War and Conflict:

The globe has been coping with a food issue for a long time, and war is one of the primary causes of this crisis. Because of the rising incidence of conflict, the food crisis was one of the worst we experienced in the nineteenth century because wars meant that the food supply wasn’t enough for world populations, and the repercussions were particularly felt in Europe. Millions of people perished as a result of malnutrition, which was caused by a lack of food and hunger. According to the statistics, more people died as a result of starvation during World War | and || than those who perished as a result of the war. Because of the inability to perform farming and land reclamation, food supply was significantly less than real need. People can’t afford to buy foods with limited quantity since the price has skyrocketed. The effects of the nineteenth-century wars and conflicts on the world’s hunger continue into the twentieth century. War is one of the major reasons why people are still suffering from hunger today. Compared to the nineteenth century, war has escalated more than ever before in history, causing strife in a wide range of countries. These wars have little impact on Europe or other industrialized nations. However, the underdeveloped are suffering as a result of the strife and warfare. Asian countries are the most afflicted by war and violence. Afghanistan and Yemen are suffering as a result of the wars that are raging in those countries. Every day, hundreds of millions of people go hungry because they are unable to farm and cannot afford to buy goods from other countries.

War Affect in Yamen:

Looking at the current situation in Yamen, the United Nations states that “Yamen is experiencing the world’s greatest humanitarian disaster.” The context of this event is that Saudi Arabia and the United States are now fighting the HOUTHI back to rebels in Yemen who are backed by Iran. At this point, the war is a proxy conflict. It has been ongoing since 2014. There is, however, no winner, and there never has been. However, there are losers, and these victims are Yemeni citizens. Since the crisis began, about 24 million people in Yemen have been reported to be in need of humanitarian aid. By the time I begin writing this post, five new individuals will have been reported to be food insecure, and by the end of the day, the total will have risen to 3500. “More than two-thirds of Yemen’s population has been impacted by the conflict.” Millions of Yemenis are hungry, and another 5 million are on the verge of starvation.” Yamen is wreaking havoc on people’s lives.

There is nothing that has been done to solve this issue. Millions of yamen’s citizens forced to leave their house because they can’t stay in their own house for war and conflict also, they don’t have food in their house. They had to move to the camp. WFP and UN-FAO trying to help these people in camps. With their limited supply of food and funds. It’s not good enough for all of the Yemen’s citizen who live in these camps. “Every day more and more children in Yemen go to bed hungry. This should not be the case for any child anywhere in the world,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

WFP also predict that situation will be worse than this because of Russia and Ukraine war.an article by WFP, “This is not just a crisis inside Ukraine. This is going to affect supply chains, and particularly the cost of food,” said Mr. Beasley. Before the conflict, WFP was purchasing around 50 percent of its wheat from Ukraine, to feed hungry people in countries such as Yemen, Ethiopia and Syria. The agency could see operation costs rise anywhere from $60 million to $75 million a month, he added, “and that means less people are going to get food which means more people are going to go to bed hungry. “WFP is calling for “a step-change” in support as the world faces unprecedented hunger due to conflict, climate shocks, and the fallouts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the conflict, WFP was purchasing around 50 percent of its wheat from Ukraine, to feed hungry people in countries such as Yemen, Ethiopia and Syria. The agency could see operation costs rise anywhere from $60 million to $75 million a month, he added, “and that means less people are going to get food which means more people are going to go to bed hungry.”

This state that because of Russia invades Ukraine, it’s not just effecting Ukraine citizens it’s also effecting world hunger badly. Since Ukraine under attack by Russia, for that reason Ukraine citizen must leave their own houses to protect their lives. And they can’t do daily activates they used to do before. And they can’t do their farming. It has affected the world hunger. This making this worst for everyone. And more and more new people are going hunger every day.

Poverty:

This one of the primary reasons of hunger. People in under the poverty they can’t afford to buy food because of their financial situation. They are too poor to own land to do farming and grow foods. Counties with high people under below poverty, they have the high hunger problem in their countries, their unemployment rate is higher, and their countries economy is so bad. The main reason behind this poverty problem is corrupted government, their planning and infrastructure. Africa continent has the most poverty problems around the globe. And Ghana is poorest in the Africa. People in Ghana live they’re under 1.25 USD with four five family members. According to International Futures (IFs), sub-Saharan Africa accounts for roughly 60% of the global population living in poverty in 2020 and it is expected that Africa will represent approximately 87% of the global poor by 2030. Africa is the world’s last frontier in the fight against extreme poverty. Today, one in three Africans – 422 million people – live below the global poverty line of living on less than $1 per day. They represent more than 70% of the world’s poorest people.

Solution of Hunger:

There are so many organizations and experts trying to find the solutions of this problem, now we all have some idea what is hunger and what causes this problem and hardly it’s effecting the world. This the problem that so hard to solve because we are having this problem since very long time. The plans were made to solve this problem are not good enough for this crisis. According to UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “If we don’t act today, we will see more children die in Yemen, and those who don’t die will suffer the consequences of malnutrition in their future, including impaired physical and cognitive development.” This shows if we don’t do something to solve this issue world is going to more and more people go under hunger. There are 811 million people are hungry right now and it’s increasing every year by 8.6%. if the number continue increasing like this than this number will be double by end of the year 2030. UN-FAO says 90 billion USD need to solve this issue. We all know just 90 billion dollars can’t solve this major issue. But it can help to reduce hunger people. Everyone should act now. If you can’t help to solve this issue by financially. You can aware people about this issue. And next time think again before waste any foods because there are hundred and millions of people are starving for you leftover or your waste foods.

Artist Statement-

My intended audience consists of young individuals or Cuny students. Global hunger is the issue I chose for my audience because it is something that few people discuss, yet it is something that everyone should be aware of. because millions of people die each year just because they do not have enough food to consume Many individuals are unaware of this subject. I picked them as my target audience since it would allow them to read a short and simple text. The facts I supplied will be relevant to people’s lives and the terrible condition that millions of people face on a daily basis. Every night, around 811 million people go to bed hungry.And nothing has been done to address this big crisis, and according to the UN, if we don’t take any efforts to fix this issue now, the number of hungry people will more than double by 2030. The information I obtained is designed to enlighten and make my audience aware of this scenario since my audience is cuny students, most of them are in their youth, and I feel that if youth take a step to solve this global disaster. Then we will be able to resolve this problem.

For unit 3, I plan to create a photo essay that will be published as a short newspaper article because I believe it is the best way to reach the most cuny students and young people to educate them on my topic of global hunger, and it is simple to capture the interest of people of young ages with a picture essay. In a brief piece, I will present a range of images and data about hunger issues and explain them well. Because it competes for space in the newspaper, a newspaper article is generally brief and to the point, depending on the subject. The most significant information comes first, followed by the details.It also generally includes visual references such as graphs or graphics to assist the reader in understanding. It will also take little time to read, which will benefit the reader if they have a lot of work and little leisure time. I feel that most people who are just starting out do not follow the news or read many books because they do not have the time. The news story would be on Canva and would not be removed without cause. They may come across news stories and other resources while researching their career on the internet.Short paragraphs, columns of text, pictures, quotations, and the writer’s interpretation are some of the characteristics of the news piece about world hunger.
This, I feel, this is the most successful method for reaching cuny students.

I contemplated doing a YouTube podcast video or a TikTok at first because most of the cuny students are young and spend the majority of their time on social media. As a result, I was considering doing a YouTube podcast video or a TikTok video. But when I was recording the YouTube podcast, I realized that my narration sounded terrible, and I didn’t like it this way since I tried so many times and each time it got worse, and I’m afraid that if I publish it, no one would be interested in watching the entire video. Then I opted against making a YouTube video.I feel I lack the necessary skills to create videos or podcasts. I attempted to produce a TikTok video, but the problem was that I couldn’t make a film longer than 3 minutes, which I believe is insufficient for my tale. And I doubt I’d be able to generate anything good through YouTube or TikTok videos. As a consequence, I decided to write an essay or a short article for my audience that featured visuals and data regarding the topic I chose. And in that piece, I used more graphics and statistics than words because my audience would not be interested in reading the entire article if I used long sentences.to improve it and make it more interesting I went through a lot of works that are comparable to my theme; I generally used images from Google, but I also acquired some through social media. I used Canva, an online project creator, to create this post. I found this web site canva to be really useful and easy to use. I didn’t find anything difficult to create or manage, and I feel this is set up everything so conveniently. I utilized the canva temples in my article, as well as certain effects that make my essay more exciting to read.

FINLA REFLECTION 

When I was registering for my fall semester classes, I noticed that the majority of them will be in person. This made me very thrilled and eager about in-person classes. Because of covid, I haven’t been able to attend in-person classes for the last two years, and we have all had to do online classes for the last two years, which I liked at first, but as time went on, these online became a nightmare for me. Because of covid, we have lost our social lives, which makes most people depressed. After a year of online high school classes, I assumed college would include in-person classes. However, because the covid situation in New York City remains dire, CUNY has determined that the majority of fall semester sessions would be offered online. I always believe that students cannot learn as much in online classes as they do in-person classes. And my fall was completely online, and it went ok. CUNY stated soon after my fall semester that the spring semester classes will be 70% in person. After the spring semester began, the majority of my classes were in-person, and I began my first semester of college studies in-person.

This semester has made discoveries about myself as a reader, writer, and researcher. I didn’t enjoy reading long blogs, articles, or essays before this semester. When I read something lengthy, I generally look for a summary of that post or article because I feel that reading the synopsis would help me understand the full thing. But when this semester began, I had a different experience, so when I received my first essay or large assignment to write in English, and I began writing without reading or gathering appropriate materials, I was experiencing writing issues and didn’t know how to finish it. I was at a loss for words when writing it. Then, during the meeting, my instructors emphasize the need of reading the full paper before starting to write on it. Also, by reading the complete article or book, we have a deeper comprehension of the subject at hand and enhance our English. When people claim that reading and writing help me understand what I’m working on better, I believe them. It also helps in writing about it. Because of my English1121 class, I learned a lot of new things about writing, reading, and thinking, and I was able to improve my reading and writing skills. In addition, I was able to acquire foundations, and This semester in English1121, I learned several new and different reading, writing, and scholarly skills that will help me in the future.

In my English lesson, my professor has given us a lot of new information. Open lab and perusing everything have been quite useful to me. We must submit our assignments or homework here, and they will be accessible to all students in the class. So, when we upload our assignments or work in the open lab, other students can help us by pointing out mistakes that we can fix before the professor scores us. In addition, with this new idea open lab, we will be able to see and learn from our classmates’ creative efforts.

Unit two is the topic that I enjoyed working on the most. This was my first time performing this sort of assignment, and I learned a lot of new things while working on it. I must select a topic to work on for this project. When I select a topic, I find three sources and perform significant study. I had to use three different sources and genres because I couldn’t just choose three articles or podcasts. I chose one item, summarized it, and made a commentary on it. To do so, I must read the full article before submitting it as part of my assignment. I’m the sort of person who doesn’t like to read a lot of big articles or papers, therefore I’ve always attempted to find a short way to read the summary of any item, which has impacted my writing.So, to choose the proper article or podcast to include on this assignment, I read a lot of articles and watched a lot of podcasts and documentaries. I choose an article to write about after performing research. It helped my writing since I read the full article before utilizing it. I’m also certain that I’ll be able to write the full thing with an out item. This thing was useful in my writing. Despite the fact that I performed not so well in unit 2, I learned a lot from it. and I had a lot of fun creating this course. It will help me in the future while writing similar tasks. Because of this unit, I’ve learned a lot about world hunger. and through units 2 and 3, I attempted to enlighten my audience on world hunger and what we can do to address it.

And my least favorite assignment was unit 3: new audience because in this unit I had to think and create a different kind of genre, this assignment instruction is I have to create a new genre to give my message to my audience that can grab their attention, this assignment was difficult for me to complete because I had to redo this assignment several times because I wasn’t able to fulfill the requirements of this unit. But, after a long period of working on this task, I was eventually able to finish it.

I want to develop as a student and grow as a thinker, reader, and person by changing some of my bad habits that are hurting my future. One thing I’d like to change is that when I face difficulties or problems that look difficult to me, I tend to give up, which affects my performance as a student and as a pastor. Because failing my academics when they become difficult will be damaging to my future. And I’d like to get out of this habit. I must also set a goal or plan for each semester and work diligently to attain it. Overall, this semester has equipped me with a plethora of new ideas and skills.

Before the semester began, I predicted that it would be a difficult one for me. However, all of the professors made things simple for me, and despite the hurdles, I had a great semester. I can apply what I’ve learnt in my forthcoming semester.
