“No it’s ok, repeat it” I hate my friend for that. He’s fluent in both English and Spanish since he’s from Puerto Rico. He claims that he loves when I speak “my” Spanish since accents are different. We were on the phone for a while, he asked if I ate and for some reason I said rice in Spanish, “Arroz”. He said that I said it so weird, and asked me to repeat. I of course hesitated and was embarrassed as well. He said I’m saying it wrong, I ran to the living room where my mom was. “Ma how do you say rice in Spanish? Arroz?” She said that I’m saying it wrong but the thing is, literally no one ever told me that I was mispronouncing it.
I think after that day I haven’t spoke Spanish whenever my friend and I are on a call. Not knowing how to form sentences in Spanish is embarrassing, but at least I understand the majority of it. I spent most of my time with my siblings when I was little. I was a very quiet and shy kid so people thought I was just mute. Right now I’m trying to teach myself some Spanish in case I go visit Mexico or my friend Puerto Rico.
