Everyone that has driven before fear having a flat tire.  The next thought that cost your mind is to think about how much that flat tire is going to cost you to fix because calling road side assistance is expensive. Have no fear!! You can breathe normally because I will not only tell you, but show you how to change your own tire and keep that money in your pocket.  Before, you can fix your flat tire; you should have a spare tire in your trunk. In addition to the spare tire that’s in your trunk, you should make sure that you have a jack, flashlight and gloves. These items like tire gauge, tire blocks and fix-a-flat-tm spray are handy, but not necessary. You can help yourself out more by checking your tire out periodically to see if your tires have uneven spots that maybe worn out, skimpy tread. After, this self examination if your tire(s) looks funny you need too change tire, before you even get on the road. Below are a list of things and instruction to changing a tire;
  • Find a safe spot to pull away and get out of road before tire is completely blown Turn on your hazard lights and get your jack, wrench and spare tire from out of your trunk Use the wrench you got from trunk to loosen lug nut. You may need to remove hub caps. Don’t remove the lug nuts at this point; simply loosen them by turning the wrench to the left (counter-clockwise). If lug nuts are super tight, try placing the wrench on the nut and standing on the wrench arm to use your entire body weight on it, or a rock , so you can hit it can be useful Use jack to lift vehicle off of the ground, until it’s at least 6 inches off of the ground Remove the lug nut and pull the tire off the car. Place lug nuts in a pile; pull the wheel base, until it can’t go any further.
  • Put on the lug nuts, but don’t fasten them to tight. Just make sure they are tight enough to prevent the spare to move
  • Lower the car on the ground, by using your jack under car. Remove jack from underneath car.
  • Now that car is flat on ground, tighten the lug nuts. Start with one lug and tighten it about 50%, move to opposite nut and tighten it the same amount. Keep tightening opposite lug nuts gradually, until each lug nut is as tight as it can be
  • Put flat tire in trunk, along with any debris, tool and etc that were used or came off of tire
