    The novel uses the author’s personal experience and describes the story of a woman who was placed in a room by her husband for recuperation treatment due to mental illness. She was trapped in the room by her husband. the room with yellow wallpaper, she cant reading, and writing any because her husband restrict his actions. she dare not resist, she can only fight her husband inwardly. This villa is an old Gothic castle building, a remote suburb with fresh air and elegant environment, magnificent, but also desolate. Her husband’s decision did not with her permission putting her in this place. The protagonist’s husband always believes that “rest and recuperation” is the best option, but instead of getting better, the protagonist’s condition has deteriorated rapidly. She focused her attention entirely on the yellow wallpaper with human heads, and became interested in the patterns on it. She had hallucinations, she felt that there were countless women crawling in the room.On the last day of the recuperation period, the protagonist tore off the yellow wallpaper on the wall, trying to release the woman on the wallpaper. Her husband was surprised and collapsed to the ground. The protagonist also becomes a crawler, crawling past his fainted husband.

    The protagonist in the story is the powerless passive role in the marriage. she was trapped in the room all day long, The independence and freedom of the protagonist have always been restricted. The novel uses Symbolism to shows the women are suppressed and treated unfairly in society. The plaid pattern on wallpaper represent men are more powerful than women. women’s freedom was restricted. the building like a jail, isolated her from the outside world. From these symbols, the author fully embodies the rights of women in society.
