In Black Mirror episode “Nosedive”, we see how the media plays a big role in people’s daily lives. Their main purpose was to impress others on their social media for higher ratings. Ratings determines your social status and how you are viewed by strangers around you. For instance, the main character falls in love with an apartment but can’t afford it. She can only receive a discount, if she bumps her rating to 4.5 as if it’s her credit score. She goes on a journey to boast up her rating but ends up going crazy trying to prove herself to everyone. In the end, she has one the lowest rating and is put in jail.
