canapa federico -Yurts, Igloos and Their Differences
Content

Yurts and igloos have many similarities and differences. Yurts and igloos are both man made shelters. These shelters are both made by using natural resources found around the site in which they are built. Igloos are generally used in snowy or icy terrains, therefore they are built from ice blocks. While yurts are usually found in large grassland, therefore they made from wood and felt which is made from the wool of the flocks of sheep that accompany the Habitants. The timber to make the external structure is not to be found on the treeless steppes, and must be obtained by trade. A difference that they have is there amount of protection. Because the igloo is made of ice it has much more wind resistance than a few sheep skins. In fact, with a fire and people inside, the temperature won’t go below 30 degrees. Igloos are also much more stable and weather proof than a yurt. While a yurt might get whipped out by a storm, Igloos will hold their ground a lot better due to their weight. Another difference is that yurts are portable. People can move from place too place and bring their home with them while igloos are stationary and aren’t going anywhere.
