May 17th, 2023
This was a very difficult semester for the department to determine the selected presenters. There were many impressive projects. We examined the projects as well as the presentations, and chose students who worked on different fields. Even if you were not selected, please know that as long as you worked on a project diligently and completed it successfully, you will likely receive a good grade.
These are the selected culmination project presenters of the spring 2023:
Chris Adams (Set design, ENT)
Yinglian Liu (A/V/lighting in gallery setting, ENT)
Shaian Khan (game, MTEC)
Sheyann Murdock (Documentary, ENT)
Alyona Radkevich (Electric piano interface, MTEC)
Karla Ramirez (“Paint music”, MTEC)
Olivia VanBuskirk (lighting, ENT)
As a reminder, this is the schedule for this Thursday:
12 pm – 2 pm (or 2:15 pm as needed) Poster Session, Theatre
2:30 pm – 4 pm Selected Presentations, V120
Thank you.

All,
Please know that this is the list of required materials to submit on your ePortfolio (see below). If you didn’t write the reports 1 – 3 throughout the semester, you should at least write your “Project Reflection”:
– Project Proposal (including budget, calendar etc.)
– Poster (PDF)
– Slide show of one’s presentation (PDF)
– Progress Report 1 (after the 3rd week, 1 page, single spaced)
– Progress Report 2 (after the 7th week, 1 page, single spaced)
– Progress Report 3 (after the 12th week, 1 page, single spaced)
– Project Reflection (upon completion of the project, 2 pages, single spaced. This needs to be more detailed than what is in the “Conclusion” on one’s poster).
All the best!

Hope you are well!
This Thursday, May 18th will be a big day as you know.
12 pm – 2 pm Poster Session, Theatre
CLTs will bring easels around 11 am, bring your printed poster on a board
about the size 2′ x 3′, usually horizontally oriented.
2:30 pm – 4 pm Selected Presentations, V120
The presenters will be finalized later today. Even if you are not among
them, if you successfully completed your project, you would likely receive a
good grade.
You must upload all the required materials on your ePortfolio by this
Thursday.
In this course, your project will be evaluated, and your grade will be
determined by nearly the entire department. Your ePortfolio matters greatly.
All the best!

Re: Prep. for your presentation
Please be well-prepared for your 10 minutes presentation. It should be a well-organized, informative and meaningful 10 minutes. Then, there will be 5 minutes for people to comment or ask questions. If you are presenting with your collaborator back to back, each one of you should present for 10 minutes and make it clear what your role in the project was. Then, we may conduct a Q & A for both presenters together after both presentations.
You must be well-prepared. Bring your slide show on a USB stick (Note: college computers do not have USB-C input yet). Please don’t start downloading your slide show when it is your turn to present. Downloading should be one of your back up plans as it is not the best method right before your presentation.
This will be a good experience for your future professional presentation. You should have your materials handy always, and also have two back up plans in case any of the technology fails. Even when you present at a fancy convention center, not everything may go smoothly.
Thank you!

Hope you are well!
The in-class presentations have started this past Thursday. Congrats to those who have successfully completed their project and have presented already. There will be more presentations this coming week. Please make sure to attend your fellow students’ presentations at least in your section. You are all welcome to attend all presentations in all sections. Please also encourage students who have not taken ENT 4499 yet. They need to think about their future project.
Concerning the poster session, at this link, you can view some poster examples:

April 23, 2023
Hope you had a good spring break.
Reminder: ENT 4499 Culmination Project classes will not meet during the 11th and 12th weeks of the semester. Then, during the 13th and 14th weeks, you all need to present during the regular class time period. Please find out from your section instructor whether it will be virtual or not.
If you are producing a video (film) project, you need to send out a link to all ENT/MTEC faculty at least two days prior to your presentation, so that your video will be viewed before you present. When you write the e-mail, you must state who you are, why you are writing the message, how long the video is, and what the theme of the project is. It is a good practice to write a professional e-mail. Soon, you will no longer be a student.
Another Reminder: Your project needs to be approved at its final stage by your technical advisor. This should happen before you present. Without the final approval, you are not allowed to present your project. In other words, you can’t present what you think is finalized. You need the approval. It is different from some other courses, in which students may put something together quickly in the end. This is your capstone course.
All the best!

Hope you are well!
It is the 9th week of the semester for many classes now. It is a good time to think of your poster design and how you structure your presentation already. Don’t wait until the last minute.
The spring break is around the corner, which is a good thing.
As a reminder, during the 11th and 12th weeks, ENT 4499 will not meet. Then, during the 13th and 14th weeks, you will give your in-class presentation. Even if it is a group project, everyone will present individually for 10 min. In a group project, it is usually the case for each student to discuss which role s/he played.
It is also time to plan the presentation schedule in each section of the course.
Take care!

March 16th, 2023
This is not specifically for culmination project students, but is for all the students in the department. The same announcement was just sent out to your college e-mail address via BB:
A guest speaker on virtual video production on Tuesday, March 21st
This will be during the ENT Tech Production class, starting at 2:30 pm. The whole department, ENT/MTEC students and faculty are invited.
Mr. Daniel Malleck from Vu Studio will discuss emmersive LED studios. This is the website of the company: https://www.vu.network/
This is a part of an educational pilot program by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). Currently, we might be the only participating educational institution in the USA. It is a great honor!
These are some of the topics, which Daniel will cover:
-
- What is virtual production in the industry today, how it has changed during recent years
-
- What Vu Studio does
-
- How Vu Studio and/or Daniel got into this particular field
-
- How our students could possibly start working in the field, how they should prepare for it, and what they need to be aware of
Note: In the announcement via BB, you can find the zoom info. This OpenLab group can be seen publicly, and therefore, no zoom link is share here.

Hope you are well!
It is time for you to add these items on your ePortfolio:
Progress Report 2
The 2nd Meeting with your technical advisor
Note: Even if you are not making progress as much as you planned to, it will help you to report it. Then, you will be able to examine why there is a delay and how you can catch up!
Best!

Hope you are well!
Meetings with Your Technical Advisor
We recommend that you meet with your technical advisor around this time for the first of three official meetings. After your proposal is approved, the official meetings start. If you are still discussing the content with your advisor, it is not considered one of those official meetings yet. Sorry, but in this course, you should be advised as you make progress throughout the semester. This process is important. If you are still working on your proposal, you can definitely catch up, but do it very soon.
OpenLab: Progress Report 1 Due
As discussed, this is the time that you write your first progress report in your ePortfolio. Write a good paragraph long report at least. Even if you are very behind from the schedule, you can describe what you were planning to accomplish by now, the reasons why there is a delay, and how you plan to catch up. This will be an important record for us faculty to examine.

Group Project/Individual Proposal & Presentation:
You may have a collaborator or two for your culmination project. As discussed previously, everyone will be evaluated individually. It is possible that within the same group, students may receive different grades. Please know that everyone must prepare his/her own proposal, and everyone must present for 10 minutes individually near the end of the semester. There is no group grade in this course. Therefore, you must clearly state what roles you are playing in your proposal and at your presentation.
Uploading Proposal:
We have had two sessions thus far. You may be modifying your project now or may be completely changing it as a show that you planned to work on was cancelled…but you should upload your proposal even if it is still a draft to be modified. Then, you can add your revised one. This way, ENT/MTEC faculty will be able to tell that you are working hard.
All the best!

January 31st, 2023
At the beginning of the semester, please make sure to already know what you need to include in your ePortfolio. You will work on a semester long project, and therefore you need to document your progress throughout the semester:
…………………..
January 29th, 2023
The spring semester has started! You should be in communication with your technical advisor. If you don’t have one yet, you should contact a faculty member, especially among a full time person whom you think could be the appropriate mentor. This is the time to work on your proposal if you haven’t completed it yet. Here is the dept. website and the faculty info.:
https://www.citytech.cuny.edu/entertainment/faculty.aspx
We currently don’t have full time sound faculty (Prof. Huntington and Prof. Smith used to be the ones), and so for a sound project, you should communicate with your faculty advisor (the instructor in your section) about your proposal, or a proposed project.
Recommendation:
This is something that we say at the beginning of each semester: Your project will be likely successful if you can finish about 85% of it before the spring break. Before the break, you should have the second meeting with your advisor, and then work on the project during the break. As soon as the break is over, you meet with your advisor again to discuss the status of your project. You may meet the advisor likely one more time after that to receive the final approval (You need to have the approval before you present your project). You can’t present “what you think is complete” as it would not be considered “finalized” by the department.
During the 13th and 14th weeks, you will present during your regular class time period. In other words, you don’t have 14 weeks to work on a semester long project. Therefore, please schedule wisely at the beginning of the semester, which is now. Best!

January 19th, 2023
Welcome to ENT 4499 (Culmination Project), Spring 2023! Here, you can read announcements for students in all the three sections. You should also always consult with your section instructor (also known as faculty advisor) if you have any questions. You all should also have a technical advisor who is an expert of the field of your project such as sound, lighting, video, scenery, management, game, music technology, and so on. Not all ENT/MTEC professors are available for the course (the workload hours are assigned and also are limited), and so you need to make sure that your technical advisor is indeed assigned for this course. Find out!
