December 14th, 2022

Congratulations on completing your culmination project! If you are receiving the incomplete grade, we look forward to seeing your project mid-February. It is around the corner!

We have just finalized the lineup of the selected presentations tomorrow. This was a difficult task as there are many excellent projects and presentations this semester. As noted, before, even if you are not part of the presentations, it is possible that you receive a good grade.

This is the list of presenters tomorrow at V120 from 2:30 pm to 4 pm:

Mamadou Diallo (VR)

Max Swietnicki (game)

Fatma Oukili (stop motion animation)

Paola Ayala (web based database)

Brannon Law & Charles Mandell (a car film)

Camille Ragland (game, visual novel)

See you soon!

Thank you all.

Hope you are well!

ePortfolio:

You all should read the submission requirements. Don’t forget to add “Project Reflection”:

Culmination Project Submission Requirements – ENT 4499 Culmination Project FA 2022 – SP 2023

Poster:

We discussed the theme of poster in class some time ago. It is time that you design and create your own poster. The poster session will be on Thursday, December 15th.

Selected Presentations:

As the in-class presentations will continue until Tuesday the 13th in the three sections of ENT 4499, we will likely announce the lineup on the 14th. You all need to be available. The selected presentations will be right after the poster session. If you will definitely not be available, you need to let your instructor, Nikki, Tony, or Ryoya know in advance.

All the best!

November 26th, 2022

Hope you are well.

This coming week, in-class presentations will start.

Reminder:

You need to make sure that you meet with your technical advisor before you present. Without the approval of the completion of your project by the advisor, you can’t present, or your presentation will not count: in other words, you can’t present what you think is complete.

If you have any concern, please communicate with your technical advisor as well as faculty advisor (the instructor in your section) soon.

After you successfully presented your project, on Thursday, December 15th, you need to participate in the poster session at the Voorhees Theatre from 12 pm to 2 pm. Then, the selected presentations will follow. We will not know who will be chosen for the selected presentations until two days before.

As this date was announced at the beginning of the semester, you all need to be available for both events, including the selected presentations either as a presenter or as an audience member.  If you can’t be available for the selected presentations, you must inform your faculty advisors ASAP.

Thank you.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

November 17th, 2022

Hope you are well.

We have three sections of ENT 4499 (Culmination Project) this semester. In two weeks, in-class presentations will start. Be on time. Especially, if you are presenting in-person, the presenters should arrive early to test playing back your materials such as a slide show. You may want to upload its backup online, so that you can easily download it. There will be not much time between the presentations. Plan and prepare wisely.

If you are presenting virtually, you may want to arrive early, too. Let the instructor of your section know that you want to test your slide show along with any other materials you may have.

You can view the schedule here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gwK90gD5XQKuj0u3SoMBEXBStnZB4EUK/edit#gid=1923472257

FYI: You need to have the final approval from your technical advisor; otherwise, you can’t present in this course.

There will be presentations in two of the sections on Thursday, December 1st. It is also the day that our department hosts Career Fair on campus for ENT students. For MTEC students, there is a virtual event on the same day, which will be announced by the MTEC faculty.

There is no need to bring your poster for your presentation. Bring it on the day of the poster session on Thursday, December 15th. Its time and location are written in the same schedule link listed above. There will be easels available for you at the theatre. You need to have your 2’ x 3’ poster printed out at a store of your choice. It also needs to be glued on to a proper board. If you wish to see some samples, there are some in my cubicle (Ryoya), which is behind Margaret’s, our secretary’ desk at V203.

For printing your poster, do not wait until mid-December as many stores will be busy due to the holiday season.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me (Ryoya) at rterao@citytech.cuny.edu.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Be inspired!

November 6th, 2022

Reminder: You don’t need to bring your poster when you present in class during the 13th and 14 weeks of the semester. In fact, don’t bring it. You can’t use your poster instead of a slide show. They are two different formats. On Thursday, December 15th, you will participate in the poster session. That’s when you will bring your brilliant poster. Your poster needs to be 2′ x 3′.  You need to go to a copy store for the printing. It needs to be attached to a board. We advise not to wait until the last minute to avoid the “holiday season business traffic.”

You can view some info. on poster session at this link: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2022-sp2023/poster-session/

All,

Please make sure that you write your real name, full name, first & last, for your OpenLab account. It is very important that we the faculty can know whose ePortfolio we are reviewing. ePortfolio is a vital part of your course grade. To pass the course, you must use your real name.

We don’t have time to “guess” whose account it is in case your full name is not used. OK?

Thank you.

October 28th, 2022

Hope you are well.

It is already the ninth week of the semester. ENT 4499 classes officially meet for the first 10 weeks, and then, you all should focus on finalizing your project. There will be class meetings during the 11th and 12th weeks.

You must receive the final approval from your technical advisor before your presentation. Without the approval, you can’t present what you think is finalized.

To prepare for your presentation, discuss with your technical advisor concerning the content and structure. This OpenLab group is resourceful. You should watch many of the past selected presentation videos: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2022-sp2023/past-selected-presentation-videos/

During the 13th and 14th weeks, there will be in-class presentations.

If you are producing a short film, you can show up to 30 seconds of a clip during your 10 min. presentation. As announced before, at least two days before your presentation, you must upload your film online (unlisted if you wish), and share the link with all the faculty/staff of the department. You can find the e-mail addresses at these links (go to all three pages from this link,  full time/part time/staff):

https://www.citytech.cuny.edu/entertainment/faculty.aspx

Reminder: Each project will be evaluated by nearly the entire department at the end. In addition to the final result, we the faculty will examine the process of your project. Therefore, it is very important that you keep your ePortfolio current and post all the relevant materials.

On Thursday, December 15th, we all will meet on campus for the poster session at the theatre from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Voorhees Theatre, and then for the selected presentations from 2:30 pm to 4 pm (the room, TBD). The list of selected presenters will be announced a day or two days before the 15th. Again, you all should be available that day. If you are selected, you should give your presentation for the second time, and will be for the whole department, not just in your class.

All the best!

September 24th, 2022

Hope you are well!

There will be some holidays coming up soon. This is usually a good time for culmination students to catch up if they are behind the schedule.

Meet with your technical advisor, consult with your faculty advisor (the instructor in your section) as needed, and enjoy working on your project.

All the best!

Proposal

In case your written proposal has not been approved yet, …. without it, you will not pass the course even if you complete an impressive project. So, consult with your technical advisor, and write an excellent proposal. Even after the content is approved, it is recommended that you make an appointment at the college’s writing center, so that your written proposal will be further polished. Remember, this page is public. Your potential employers may possibly find your proposal and examine your writing skills!

Presentation & Poster Session

For your presentation, you are expected to have a slide show. If you wish to present differently and more effectively, you must have consult with your faculty and technical advisors in advance.

Your poster session will be separate on a different day. There is no need to bring your poster for your presentation. In fact, please do not use your poster instead of a slide show.

Thank you.

September 5th, 2022

Each student must meet with his/her technical advisor at least three times throughout the semester. That is, after the proposal is officially approved. Until then, no matter how often you meet with the advisor, it doesn’t count as any of the three required meetings.

This is the time that you need to finalize your project scheme and proposal. Work diligently, and don’t fall behind from the course schedule.

Best.

September 4th, 2022

Here is a suggested timeline to complete your project successfully on time:

First of all, you can’t present your project without the final approval of your technical advisor. In other words, you are not allowed to present a project, which you think is complete. This is very important.

You should try to have your project 90% done by Thanksgiving. Meet your technical advisor before the break to receive some feedback. Make some improvement during the break. Then, meet with your advisor again right after the break. Then, you still have about one week to make any adjustments. This way, you will be prepared to present during the 13th week of the semester. The in-class presentations will be held during the 13th and 14th weeks. Be ready to present during the 13th week. If you aim at the 14th week and if there is any delay, you will most likely not complete your project this semester.

It is required for you to meet with your advisor at least three times throughout the semester. I often meet with my students more often than that. At every meeting, you should show some great improvement after the previous meeting. Otherwise, there would be no point for having the multiple meetings. OK?

September 4th, 2022 (contd.)
Group Project/Individual Proposal & Presentation:
You may have a collaborator or two for your culmination project. As discussed previously, everyone will be evaluated individually. It is possible that within the same group, students may receive different grades. Please know that everyone must prepare his/her own proposal, and everyone must present for 10 minutes individually near the end of the semester. There is no group grade in this course. Therefore, you must clearly state what roles you are playing in your proposal and at your presentation.

September 4th, 2022 (contd.)

For those students who are producing a short film. At least two days before your presentation, you need to have your video uploaded online (YouTube or Vimeo etc. with or without passcode), and send out an e-mail to all faculty in our department to introduce who you are (supposed we don’t know you), the duration of your film, and the content. We recommend each film to be up to 10 minutes long for this course.

In your e-mail, indicate the time and date of your presentation to invite everyone to your presentation. This is a tradition in ENT 4499. This way, the faculty can view your film before your presentation whether we can attend it or not.

How do you contact all the faculty? The e-mail addresses can be found at these pages:
