During the two years of my Dental Hygiene studies I have accumulated a considerable amount of scientific evidence based oral healthcare related knowledge. Together with my classmates in most of the courses taken I researched various subject areas and prepared many oral presentations. Here are some of them as examples:
- DEN 1200 – Article Critique, related to scientific research studies concerning nutrition and periodontal disease;
- DEN 1200 – participated to Wellness fare with the poster and broshure regarding “Nutrition and Periodontal Disease”
- Embriology/Histology – Caries Process
- Radiology – Mandibular Landmarks
- Periodontology – Effect of Hepatitis C, Smoking, and Parkinson Disease on Periodontal Disease
- Pharmacology – Tuberculosis
- Oral Pathology – Mumps
- Public Health – Planning and Implementing Fluoride Varnish Program
The weekly three clinic sessions during these two years gave me the opportunity to apply most of the theoretical knowledge into practice. I have treated many patients with different degrees of periodontal disease. During the treatment process I have utilized didactical knowledge and skills related to patient assessment; treatment planning and implementation, including patient education; creating a good rapport to the patient by showing empathy and using good communication skills. This can be exemplified through one of my Journals.
