In the summer of 2012 I had the great opportunity to have an internship in the dental office of Drs. Nasso, Olsen and Napolitano in Staten Island. This gave me a valuable insight into the real life experiences of a dental hygienist in a professional working setting. Some of my goals for the internship were:

• Observe and better understand the daily routine work of a dental hygienist
• Observe and learn instrumentation and patient & operator positioning
• Understand treatment plan
• Exposing dental radiographs and interpreting/detecting problem areas
• Taking alginate impressions and pouring models
• Learn how to make bleaching trays for teeth whitening
• Learning how to use computer software and learning important ADA codes
• Observing and learning some of the restorative dentistry related procedures 

The internship was a great learning experience for me. The specific work assignments have assisted me to gain a professional work experience that I can utilize in my future.
