This assignment was personally one of the annoying for me. From getting cut a few times, to getting glue all of the place, it was one of the most difficult projects. Painting the collages was stressful. I just couldn’t get the colors right, no matter how hard i tried. i would paint it on the bristol, then it would dry as a different color. I also ran out of paint and i felt myself giving up.
However, i did learn the difference between high and low key paintings. I feel like i still need to work on being a little neater, as well as having more patience. I get annoyed easily, but i’m pretty content with how everything turned out.
Walking around City Tech, I had some trouble finding some high key. Low key was pretty easy, since most of the school has dark areas. For the high key picture, I ended up picking a picture that has more light than dark. It isn’t too bright, since it was gloomy outside, but there is still a major contrast from the sky and the buildings/ground.
For this project, I realized I needed to visualize sounds. It’s a lot harder that it seems. From listening to music to create legato and staccato mashups, to saying my name out loud to create a topographical map of some sorts, visualizing sounds is pretty unique.
I personally think it’s a special skill to create art just by listening to sounds or music. I don’t think I’m very good at doing so, and i think my topography piece could be a lot stronger than it is now. However, I did have fun trying to visualize my name and how it looks like in my head. I think my staccato/legato piece is a lot strong than the topographical map. I felt like I should have spent more time on it and should of made it a little more detailed like some of my peers’ work.
Song heard: Green Eyes -Coldplay
Through out the song, all I can hear is a guitar being played constantly. Trying to visualize the sound it creates is pretty difficult. It stats of slow and calm, then more instruments are introduced making the song a little more up beat.
For the guitar, I pictured a steady line moving up and down in an even motion. Once more instruments were played, the line becomes thicker and isn’t moving in an even motion. It spikes up once the tempo was being changed.
