My project was based on the song “Curses” by The Crane Wives. I drew to the music, created 27 patterns based on the initial drawing, refined them down to 6 patterns, and then created a layout to fit those patterns together in. The final was pencil on Bristol before being inked with micron pens.
I find “Curses” playful, smooth, and evocative of smoke. Each iteration of the project, from the music doodles to the final, was interesting and grew progressively refined and abstract, but I feel like I managed to maintain the personality of the music. The final was painstaking and stressful due to the return of my tremor, but I am quite fond of it.
