Using a custom domain with Adobe Portfolio

While every site comes with a built-in myportfolio.com domain, we also give you the option of setting up a custom domain. Custom domains can:

  • Give you improved exposure on search engines
  • Are easier to promote (username.com is generally going to be easier to remember)
  • Custom domains are a personal touch that separate your Portfolio from the rest of the pack

Connecting a custom domain

With your custom domain, there are different ways to connect your domain:

Connect your custom domain with Domain Connect

Manually configuring a custom domain

Whether you just purchased a new domain name or wish to use an existing domain name with your Portfolio site, connecting the domain will require that you re-map your domain name so that your DNS Records point to Adobe Portfolio.

Note: you do not need to change nameservers. Please keep those pointing to your default nameservers. You only need access to your DNS settings.

Steps for setting up custom domain

1. You will need to locate the IP addresses you need to remap your domain name:

  1. Go to Settings in the left-hand panel
  2. Click Domain Name
  3. Click Connect your Domain Name
  4. Copy your two IP addresses from the table provided

2. Change your DNS Settings

  1. Log into your domain provider’s portal
  2. Go to DNS settings
  3. Using the two IP addresses, create four (4) A Records

It should look like this:

   Record Type      Host/Name      Value
   A   @   IP address 1
   A   www  IP address 1
   A   @  IP address 2
   A  www  IP address 2

3. Connect Domain Name by entering the domain name and hitting ‘Apply’

Note:

  • Remove any A Records that are not pointing to the provided IP addresses
  • If you are using CAA Records, please ensure they are set to issuewild and pointing to letsencrypt.org. More on that here.
  • It usually takes about 24/48 hours for your DNS settings to update/propagate once the DNS settings are changed and the mapping is complete. You can check the status here.
  • DO NOT remove & re-enter your custom domain name within Adobe Portfolio Settings more than five times. This will cause a delay in generating a SSL Certificate. You will also need to wait one week to re-enter your custom domain.
