Making these were much easier than the other two collages. I spent two hours making these.
For our next field trip I believe we should go the Paweł Althamer: The Neighbors at the New Museum. At first I wanted to go there because it gives us an opportunity to draw on the walls but then i read the description and i became more interested in the learning experience I can get out of it. Being able to see the different things other people put on the wall shows how much cultural diversity the world has today in visual form. As an artist and soon to be designer i think this is a very important thing to understand. I also read that the exhibition has sculptures and videos of his journey working with community groups. I personally think the majority of the class would be more interested and attentive in this trip because of the activity you can do and the videos and sculptures you can see. I also like the fact that Althamer included a coat drive for the people in need, If i end up finding a spare mens coat that is in good condition i think i would have done a good deed.
In the beginning this project was difficult. It was hard to make the colleges because I don’t really have a sense of imagination and i felt like putting puzzle pieces together from 5 different puzzles. I was surprised i ended up with a gloomy mushroom but the exercise reminded me that art is all about mood, perception, imagination and etc.
Painting with gouache for the first time was fun but very very time consuming. I am really satisfied with my painting because i rarely paint and when i got my narrow range collage painting really close to the original collage I was amazed by my patience and ability to actually paint.
I think this project was the shortest out of all the projects. Although I really disliked making the collages, this project was interesting because it introduced painting with gouache in grayscale. Overall I have learned a lot about the importance of placement, movement, value and mood when working with this project. I think i still need to work out on my time and updating the blog.
When we went on the class field trip to the gallery I was really interested in this picture. It reminded me of how i like my ice cream. Sometimes it gets too frozen and looks kind of like the picture. I also liked the photo to the right. It must have been difficult to take a picture on just one snow flake without it melting. It looks so detailed. It is very fascinating. I think being a photographer is amazing because you can capture moments and travel to many places. This field trip really gave me a sense of what a high key and low key value is.
This is my painting of my narrow range. It was fun to paint with gouache for the first time. I tried my best to make it similar to my original collage. The background was the most difficult to paint because my grays kept on running out and when i tried to remake it, the color was off. This took me about 3 hours to make. I liked this part of the project a lot.
These are my collages. At first I found it difficult to make something out of my own picture. I found out that doing a broad range collage was more difficult for me but in the end I crossed that bridge. I am fairly satisfied with these collages because I think they look nice. I took about an hour to 2 hours with these.
