Timekeeping!!

Wednesday 11/3- 4pm-8pm

I showered= 0.50

I got dressed for a Birthday dinner= 0.15

I drove to the restaurant Cuba= 0.65

We had dinner and catching up with each other= 2.0

After dinner we were walking around Washington Square park = 1.0

Reaction: I never really thought about how I spent my time but doing this assignment I realized after our walk I thought that it was only like a 30min walk but in reality it was mostly likely 1Hr. This was a cool assignment and now I would probably track my time and the things I do.  🙂

Timekeeping

Tuesday 11/2-8:00-12:00

I went to the bathroom – .10

I had breakfast – .20

I joined the meeting for my English class – .90

I took my midterm English exam – .60

I ate lunch – .30

I joined to class  – .60

I took my second midterm exam – .30

I went back to class (biology class) – .30

I ate some snacks – . 25

I finished some homework -.45

total: 4.0

Reaction: What surprised me the most was how much time I spend eating. Moreover, from now on I will try to be quicker while eating so I can save some time.

Timekeeping

Tuesday 11/2 – 12:45-4:45

Walked to F train station after class — .25

Took the train to Bushwick, transferring at Delancey on the way — .50

Walked from train station to my apartment — .25

Talked to my sister when I get back to the apartment about her recent trip (she was just in London!) — .25

Put class materials away and wrote down/organized homework and tasks for the week — .50

Gathered my work uniform and put my bag together for work later that day — .25

Walked to the J train station to head back into Manhattan — .25

Took the train to Manhattan — .50

Walked from the train to one of my jobs in SoHo to pick up my paycheck — .25

Talked to my coworkers and received a free weekly covid test they do every Tuesday— .25

Walked to the 1 train station to head to my other job to work for the night — .25

Took the train from SoHo to FiDi — .25

Walked from the train station to Duane Reade to pick up posters and craft materials (my parents will be in town this weekend because my mom is running the marathon so I’m making her a sign!) and then walked across the street to work — .25

Total – 4.0

Reaction: It was interesting keeping track of my time throughout the day. It made me realize how much or how little can be done in a 4 hour period. I also feel like I spent most of my time walking to and from the train rather than doing things but it was a good experience to have everything written down. It showed me how I can utilize my time more if I pay attention to the details!

My timekeeping record!

Here is how I spent my time on Monday, November 1, 9am-1pm:

Administer fluids to my cat, Darryl — 0.25

Walk to Board of Elections office and drop off absentee ballots — 0.50

Walk from Board of Elections to City Tech — 0.25

Attend Law & Paralegal Studies faculty meeting on Zoom — 1.0

Phone call with family friends, the Melleys — 0.25

Phone call with my friend Maria — 0.25

Respond to emails — 0.25

Walk to St. James Cathedral — 0.25

Attend mass — 0.75

Talk with my friend Helena who I ran into at mass — 0.25

Total: 4.0

Reaction: At first, it was strange to think so much about how I spent my time.  But after about two hours, I got used to it.  Then, after the four-hour period ended, I still found myself thinking in terms of quarter-hour intervals — for example, after I walked home I thought, “that took me oh-point-two-five,” and after I prepared my dinner, I thought, “oh-point-seven-five.”  That’s how I used to think when I practiced law full-time!

What do you want to ask our guest speakers?

In prep for our first session of “Guest Speaker Week” on Tues. Oct. 26, please “reply” to this post with one or question for our visitors!  They are both graduates of our program: Tiara Yelverton is now a paralegal at NYC Transit Authority, and Kyle Stevenson is a third-year student (“3L”) at Pace University Law School.  You can read Kyle’s terrific bio and resume for ideas.  You may address your questions to either or both of them!
