Submit to the first CTW Creative Writing Contest

What is City Tech Writer?

City Tech Writer is an interdisciplinary journal of undergraduate writing focused on publishing excellent student writing from across the disciplines.

What is the CTW Creative Writing Contest?

Usually, we publish lab reports, research papers, essays, interview transcripts, and creative work – including visual media – sponsored by professors and written for class. This year, however, we are also running a creative writing contest featuring responses to any entry from last year’s edition of City Tech Writer (citytechwriter.com).

Why do submissions have to respond to  an entry from last year’s volume?

No one writes in a void. We write to respond to the ideas, thoughts, and feelings of others, even if we also arrive at our own unique points of view. This contest is intended to celebrate student writers responding to other student writers, adding their own ideas, stories, and insights to an unfolding tapestry of thought!

Does my submission have to explicitly talk about the original entry.

Your entry can, but does not have to, explicitly mention the original entry. Whether directly or indirectly, however, it should respond to specific images, philosophical concerns, or sociocultural topics that the original entry addresses. Quoting from the original entry is welcome but not required.

If your submission does not explicitly mention the original entry, you must include a 50 word paragraph, at the end of the submission, explaining how your entry responds somehow to the preceding year’s entry.

What are the other contest rules?

Glad you asked! Please see and adhere to the complete list of rules at this Canva slideshow.

When is the deadline?

5 pm on Monday, April 15! (note updated deadline). Please see complete list of rules at this Canva slideshow.
