I wanted to keep this quote completely typographic. I also wanted to make it a bit playful without being too casual. So I decided to use an average sans-serif typeface and played with the word “smile” a little bit. I kept the smiley face as a bright yellow color to contrast the black and white background and letters, which also brings more attention to the 🙂
Quote 2 final version
I started with the quote by first finding a vector format of the hat worn by the cat in the hat, who is one of the most prominent Seuss character. Afterwards I found an image of the the actual character and imported it into Photoshop, then decreased the opacity and shaped the words of the quote into the shape of the character.

This is a part of the research that I’ve done. I only had a vague idea of what the popsicle sticks actually look like. It also helped me to choose the typeface.
Popsicle texturing
I made texture by using the brush tool with a filler color, then I brought down the opacity and applied clipping mask of the popsicle shape.
