Line Design (COMD1101/Fall 2015)

Line Design (COMD1101/Fall 2015)

In aim of this assignment was to create four, 4″x4″, designs, two representing ‘Power’ and two representing ‘Fragility’. The element we used to design is line. Line can vary in width, length, direction, color and degree of curve. Line also creates movement which evokes a sense or illusion of motion.

For the ‘Power’, I purposely used all of the space to show impact and density which on the other hand I tend to leave more negative space in ‘Fragility’ to show emptiness.

Shape/Symmetry Design (COMD1100/Fall2015)

Shape/Symmetry Design (COMD1100/Fall2015)

There are three major ways to represent objects: pictorial symbols, graphic symbols, and verbal symbols. Pictorial symbols are realistic and can be easily understood while graphic symbols are more abstract.

The aim of this assignment was to first draw an illustration of an organic object (pictorial symbols). Then you create an image related drawing, a concept related drawing, and an arbitrary symbol (graphic symbols) all filled with black. In the end, you’ll have to write a definition (verbal symbols) regarding your object/illustration.

Shape/Symmetry Design (COMD 1100/ Fall 2015)

Shape/Symmetry Design (COMD 1100/ Fall 2015)

The aim of this assignment was to use the shapes that we had created previously and make a symmetrical design based on geometric and organic forms.

In this design, we use and experienced the design principles of repetition, balance, rhythm, and structure.
