Question: When are reading assignments due?

Response: You should complete your reading assignments with notes in your sketchbook the same time as the rest of the assignment. [I will be periodically correcting your sketchbooks with notes in class so in fact you could complete the reading before the first class after your assignment is due.]

Question1: I was trying to figure out how to put grid on the image can you please tell me. Response: Can you be a little bit more descriptive with your question? The grid should be drawn using the grid line template as indicated over the drawing. Copy the grid lines in the template and placed them over the image in a way which makes logical sense to the structure of the building. Think about the way the structure of the building works addition to what is represented in the drawing. Remember to use the dimension lines in between the column lines. Copy them and place them in between the grid lines and stretch them to the correct length.

Question2: Assignment 1 due 9 pm, but I saw the assignment is due 9 am on Sunday. Response: The due time is fixed.

Question: You had mentioned a reading assignment in class. I am having trouble finding where it was posted. I was wondering if you could help me find it.

Response: typically, I give the reading assignment on the slide during the presentation and on the open lab under the most recent assignment. For the current reading see assignment A1.

Question: Where on blackboard should we post and should we hatch the walls on our drawings?

Response: You will now find and upload location in the content section of the class blackboard site. Do not hatch your walls, use heavy line weights for your cut walls. Walls are typically only hatched on some presentation plans not on construction plans. When they are hatched there usually filled in.

How far does the key go into the footing?

Response
Concrete of type the typical for foundations well in increments of an 1/2 inch. Smaller increments have a risk of not casting properly. A good key to mention for this project would be 3 inches on top by 2 inches in depth by 1.5 inches at the base.

I was wondering what the king stud is supposed to look. Could I get a photo of how a king stud supposed to look at windows, and doors?

Question:
Should the roof be in a square shape or in a L shape for the high performance house? The plan has a cantilever so should we make it square or keep it L shaped?

Response:
Yes, you may have to do a square roof. Your roof configuration will depend on the size and shape of your cantilever. For example, some students have their cantilever projecting just a few feet off of the 2nd floor thus preserving the L shape.

Question:
I am confused as to how the architectural casework is supposed to be shown in the plans.

Response:
Casework is shown in the architectural plans only. Use the lightest lines to indicate casework. Items that should be considered casework include kitchen counter and bathroom fixtures. Typically, furniture that is movable he is not included in architectural plans.
