Today we are going to discuss modalities. Write a letter describing your Unit 3 project, including the genre/mode that you are planning on. What is your final project going to be about? You might start out, “My project is going to be about….” And go on to articulate what evidence you have to back up your ideas, what parts still feel rough to you about your ideas.
Remember that the mode you choose will be that which you feel will most effectively communicate your ideas to the specific audience you want to reach. Reflect on the writing that you have done so far.

- What counter-interpretations might work against your emerging claims?
- What are you struggling with most as you approach the draft?

My project is going to be about how to create a character in novel that with real soul in it, some evidences I had are “think about plot and character together when creating a character, “throw a character in a environment full of choices”,and ＂knowing readers will help you to create your character＂， my subject matter because only a character with a real soul is able to impress people, most of us have a favorite character, maybe from a book, a movie or a TV series. During studying this topic, I will get deeper about what the elements of those characters are. Also, I improve my creativity, imagination and writing skills during this process. So it’s a matter for me. I don’t think there is a counter-interpretations for my topic… one thing struggling with most as I approach the draft is I’m not sure if the genre I choose can express my idea well in the end.

First and foremost, there is always something to talk about even though we don’t have anything to talk about there are going to be world issues to talk about that is why I should the topic of how “electric cars can save lives more than combustion engine powered cars”. My personal investment that I have about this issue is that every year thousands of people die due to the carbon monoxide that is being released by combustion gasoline cars. The main purpose this topic is important is that it is a controversial topic to talk about because most people believe that gasoline-powered vehicles are good, and it is going to be difficult for them to transition to electric vehicles, and I am also trying to portray here is that electric is the way to renewable energy and less pollution to the environment. A counter-interpretations that might work against my emerging claim is that before the most electric vehicle is produced or brought to the dealer, the factory is powered by gasoline or diesel before coming together.
Secondly, for this draft, I don’t think there is going to be any struggle approaching it because it has been talked about in almost all social media platforms, websites, and articles. So it is going to be a very interesting topic to talk about. Lastly, to make my final draft I am going to be using the genre of persuasive and informative genres, I will also be using the mode of visual aid (google Slides) to present my topic to the audience, logos, and ethos.

My project will focus on a six-day war that took place between Israel and Arab countries like Palestine, Syria, and Egypt. As a result of this war, Israel occupied and controlled Palestinian territories and that’s how it declared its self a state with the help of American Aid. This six day war mostly affected Palestine because it suffered the most loss and continues to this day. To deliver my argument, I will be writing this project in an academic essay because I believe it’s the best and most effective genre to reach my preferred audience. My argument matters because it will focus on the tragedy that occurred about half a century ago and the consequences of that tragedy that is still happening to the Palestinians to this day. Since this issue I’m writing about is a very controversial topic, I believe there will definitely be backlash and different opinions that are totally valid since everyone is entitled to their own opinion but with this essay I hope to change a few opinions on this serious issue. One thing I struggle with whenever I’m writing an essay in general is the introduction but I already started a draft and it sounds good to me.

My project is going to be about pain specialists. I choose pain specialists as my project because I want the school that pain specialists go to have a better teaching method for people that want to be pain specialists so they can help their patients better in the future when they graduate from school. Also I would like to be pain specialist in the future because I would like to help others who experiences back and side pain like me to feel better. The medicine and exercise pain specialists give their patient to do doesn’t work really well. In the article Pain Specialists Evolution of Patient’s Prognosis During the First Visit Predicts Subsequent Depression and the Affective Dimension of Pain states “Foster and colleagues found that patient’s pessimism regarding their lower back prognosis at baseline was associated with poorer outcome 6 months later; thus it is perceivable that the prognosis given by a physician may have the same negative efforts especially if the patient is directly or indirectly aware of this prognosis.” The personal investment I have in this issue is by taking pain medicine and exercises my pain specialists give me to do. At first the medicine works just fine but when I take it the 2 time it didn’t work because I can still feel the pain on my back and side. Also some exercise my pain specialists gave me to do helps me to relieve pain, but other exercise my pain specialists gave doesn’t relieve pain but makes the pain worse. My argument matters because if there are no good pain specialists people who have pain problems will not get proper treatment. The counter-interpretations that works against my emerging claims is that people would think even without good pain specialists people can still have ways to relieve pain. The thing that I am struggling with the most is which logos and pathos I am going to use because I can use pathos in my writing but I am not sure about logos.
