Community Service

Public health is a course taught during the fourth semester, the class teaches us about the importance of giving back to our community. Specifically, each of us gathered into groups and started working on our own  special way of “community service.”

My classmates and I chose to teach preschoolers in MetroKids kindergarten. Our main objective was to teach  the importance of oral health including brushing correctly and the importance of nutritional balance. As hygienists, our goal is to stop oral diseases by means of prevention, therefore we wanted to implement good oral habits in these preschoolers. This way, if our message and objectives got across, these children would get a head start on their overall oral health!
