Notes from Jury:
Reymond: questions bldg placement – need to integrate with concept. Pathways are random, work on site triangles and connections. Bldgs are too boxy – now develop them to the next level. Exterior spaces – private vs. public vs semi…
Massamba: good gif showing ideas. Site plan is integrating the idea of non-balance- good! Create a clear understanding of the clear paths and why the location, diagram the paths. Look at the placement of bldgs – views of Manhattan are missing. Study the negative spaces between the buildings and what activities are occurring there.
Mei Fen: 5 elements of a good site design- water, trees, entertainment, food and accessibility to street. Watch these. Prof Lia wants more layers in the buildings similar to the landscape – stepping, balconies, shifting. Think about building entrances, locations,
Beddour: Lia loves the mesh! wants the element of the BQP to cover and integrate into the rest of the site and buildings. Could this cover the buildings and create forms – balconies…maybe the buildings are separated using the mesh as connecting them. Look at outdoor spaces in European buildings that are more than little balconies.
Larry: Strong process and connection of concept development. Look at the dots as more of “doppler effects” radiating out and overlapping and a central connection. Rope is intriguing but perhaps it continues onto the buildings. Hierarchy of massing needs to be reexamined – tallest one should be the shorter one.
Jubaida: exciting concept/process – simple but extremely elegant. Need site section through the short of the buildings to see relationship of adjacencies. Why do the bldgs stop where they do? what controls that? can they be longer?
Dante: need to stretch out the buildings across the site and rotate to allow for more open space around and to create the negative space. Maybe these massing are cut/spliced at a certain point to open up views. Look at similar buildings for a variety of layouts – building steps as it goes upward leaving smaller apartments on the top and larger apartments in the base or middle. Large bldg on Congress is giving a lot of shade on site.
Ahmad: Watch graphics – site plan has too massing overlapping lines. Need a lot of work on residential units – private vs public spaces, doors swing into the apartment. Create a layout that is organized on the site with a grid overlay. There is little organization and concept development in your project. The grid will help organize the solids and the voids and create these semi public/private spaces that can have purpose. Why are the towers so tall and why are they located where they are?
Joshua: Too massive and rigid. use the BQP as the spine and the finger come from that. The current spine and BQP are in conflict and this will help resolve the double layer. Allow the fingers to be more organic similar to your brain waves and are able to move with the movement of the site.
Fuaad: Hexagon – look at Frank Lloyd Wrights project. Why is it place in its current location? Find a spot for an open space on the site that can be this hexagon and use it to determine the location of the other buildings. create overlays from this central hexagon to develop bldgs and paths. Also look at the splits of bldgs to connect.
Nadja: too much going on – need to look at your concept and keep the basic elements and reinforce them – protrusions and horizontal elements. look at where there are positives and negatives. There is very little housing here and the horizontal curves do not reinforce your concept. The horizontal elements can create private outdoor space for the residents.
