This project we will be designing a hostel – which is a lower priced hotel with many common spaces. The bedrooms are communal similar to a dormitory – the rooms would have: 4 beds, 6 beds, or 8 beds.
For this assignment you will be researching two dormitories – with multiple beds per room – suites (normally called in dorms) or hostels not in the USA.
Try to find two hostels/dorms on different continents (Asia and Europe for example…)
We are concerned about the commons spaces too.
Answer these questions through diagrams and images/drawings:
- How are the beds organized?
- How many beds are in each room?
- Where are the bathrooms?
- How are they organized? (how many shower/sinks per room?)
- What are the commons spaces?
- Are there lockers/location to store belongings safely?
- What are the materials/lighting?
- How do they maintain privacy?
- Is there a sense of community?
