Money Lover

Now you must be wondering why I am doing a review on an app that has nothing to do with design. Well as designers we all need to know how to manage our money. If you are a freelance designer; your check or money is not a constant thing where some jobs receive their money every two weeks.  So we have to be mindful of where our money goes and be able to pay those bad boys (bills).

Money lover is an app that helps you manage your money and show you how much are spending on one thing. Like food or clothing. There are some pros and cons which I will explain later on, but overall it a good app. money-lover

Day to Day Use

When I first download Money Lover, I was a bit confused on how to use it. But what great about this app is that it gives you a step by step guide on how to use. So what you do is first create a wallet which you type up. For example, I created a wallet for my bank account and I wrote the amount I had in that bank account. Then when I use any money from that bank account, I had to manually type in what was spend and title what the expense was. For me, this app had helped me remember where my money is going. When You use the app for a month, it gives an in-depth review on what you spend, how much you spend and where is money is really going.

Here is a video that explains what the app does:

You can even scan your receipts:

Your can even connect your app to Uber or PayPal, which is great for me because I use Uber a lot.

But and yes there is a but, you have to buy coins to scan your receipts. This does not make sense to me at all. Also, there are other features on the app but you have to pay to get to use those features. For example, if you want more wallets; you have to pay.

So to sum everything up:

1. Useful graphs and charts

Money Lover offers the normal pie chart of your spending and also bar graphs to help you identify trends in your net income.

2 Ability to add manual transactions

Money lover is not connected to the user’s bank accounts. By not being connected that means users have to manually input (at least once) their recurring transactions or singular transactions.

3. Option to add details with each transaction

Similar applications to Money Lover only offer a few details to add when inputting a new transaction but Money Lover offers a lot more besides the normal category and title. Money Lover allows you to add notes, contacts, a picture, location, and reminders.

Money Lover is completely independent of your financial institution. This is great for those that are worried about sharing their bank account details but of course, this is less convenient.

4. Supports everyone

Money Lover is completely independent of all financial institution so anyone in any country can use Money Lover.

Each transaction must be added manually because Money Lover cannot connect to user’s financial institution.

6. Basic app is free but with advertisements

The free version of Money Lover includes small banner advertisements at the bottom of the application. They aren’t too intrusive but they can be annoying. Removing the advertisements is a $2.00 in-app purchase. Getting the whole Money Lover experience requires an upgrade from the basic application to the premium application without advertisements and the ability to have more than one wallet, a budget plan, and an event plan for a $4.99 in-app purchase.

That’s Money Lover in a nutshell. I don’t use it anymore because well it took to much space on my phone. So my fellow reader, if any of you find a good money/ finance/ budget app, please let me know. Thanks
