Nature, in the common sense, refers to essences unchanged by man; space, the air, the river, the leaf. Art is applied to the mixture of his will with the same things, as in a house, a canal, a statue, a picture. But his operations taken together are so insignificant, a little chipping, baking, patching, and washing, that in an impression so grand as that of the world on the human mind, they do not vary the result.
Undoubtedly we have no questions to ask which are unanswerable. We must trust the perfection of the creation so far, as to believe that whatever curiosity the order of things has awakened in our minds, the order of things can satisfy. Every man’s condition is a solution in hieroglyphic to those inquiries he would put.

Copper wire, wood base. I created this piece in late 2008. For this work, I aimed to convey both the industrial heaviness of an airplane, but also the cloudlike floating quality you feel when you’re in one.

Project Description
This course introduces students to core concepts in the graphic communications field including typography, color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the graphic communications field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
Reflection
In the shortest amount of time, being in the class and constantly observing other students working and trying their best to achieve the best they can with the little they know(including me) has been quite enlightening to me as a scholar and as a learner. Despite having difficulties adjusting to the workflow and expectations I have to meet while being in class really makes me inspired to go above and beyond my current capabilities. I may not be the brightest or the fastest student in class but the competitive nature of such a field challenges me to strive to do better, master my skills, and acquire the ones I lack regarding the specific framework of merging two worlds of design and writing.
