Golden Rule- The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio. It is commonly found in nature, and when used in design, it fosters organic and natural looking compositions that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Informal– It gives the artist a sense of harmony to the eye
Rule of thirds- The Rule of Thirds is actually a guideline more than a rule. It is intended to help the artist with the placement of the elements and focal point within the composition.
Proportion– Proportion refers to the relative size of parts of a whole (elements within an object). We often think of proportions in terms of size relationships within the human body.
Informal– A size relationship between the elements and real objects
Rhythm has to do a lot with design. Repetition, pattern, texture, and etc. Rhythm can create many things a sense of movement that can make a viewers eye follow through the elements of the composition.
Formal: Art that moves through the effect of natural properties, either its own inherent properties or their effect, is unpredictable. Spatial relationships within the work change continuously, with endless possibilities.
Informal: An art that has illusions of it’s elements moving
