Crooke Center Grammar School

The Crooke Center Grammer School is for children with special needs. My colleagues and I were able to represent our school as practicing dental hygienist to help them in anyway possible.

Our assigned classrooms consist of 24 children ranging from 9 to 11 years of age. We’ve created/presented a powerpoint to the children to help better understand the importance for brushing.

Along with the powerpoint, we’ve managed to provide extras such as instructional pamphlets for the caretakers to assist with their brushing and a handcrafted booklet for the classroom.

The contents within the booklet includes sample props and pictures from an ordinary dental office. These props and pictures help serve as a first time exposure or to help them familiarize with it.

The last objective was to assist the children in brushing on the typodont. This way we can easily help introduce and/or adjust their brushing technique. The exercise also will help the children familiarize with the arm and hand motion during brushing.

Head Start/Varnish Program

My classmates and I had the opportunity to provide free dental screenings, education and fluoride applications to the children of this school.
