My experiences in the classroom are through the Student Internship course EDU 3681 (Internship in Career and Technical Education). In this field-experience I was placed in two different schools for 7-weeks at a time. The schools that I was interning at were PS 150 (The Christopher School) and Science Skills Center High School, both located in Brooklyn. As educators we must always be willing discover new opportunities to better enhance our instructional approaches, in order to best serve our students. In my coursework I have had to work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs. Lesson plans, objectives and content must always be in line with what we want our students to accomplish in the best possible way that they can. Instruction must always be geared towards facilitating student accomplishment and promoting student success by providing students with the best possible instruction. Interning at the two differing school-age levels, you can immediately notice the deferring needs of the students. Both environments offer distinguishing methods for how instruction should be delivered and the dispositions that an instructor must bring along with them into every aspect of the classroom. As teachers we must also be aware that building a positive relationship with the students through encouragement, feedback, promoting creativity, adjusting our lessons, and motivating students in regards to content to real-world scenarios, will increase the likelihood of student success and willingness to learn and master the content that is being introduced to them.
Attached are some of my lesson plans that I have developed for the internship course:

From my internship experience(s) I have come to understand that when developing appropriate instruction for students in any given classroom, the emphasis must always be on which student is going to require the most accommodations. In any classroom, a teacher can be faced with a multitude of needs ranging from disorders to language barriers. Instruction should always be carefully planned, planned in advance and adaptable to any situation that may arise in the classroom. Additionally, teachers should always have supplemental work ready for those students who are highly-gifted and may require extra work to prevent boredom and de-motivation. Using the experiences gained form this internship opportunity is a huge “window” into what an actual NYC Public School classroom is like. Taking from these experiences, as a prospective educator, I must always try my best to continually form my knowledge, better enhance my instruction and appreciate every single moment that is spent in the classroom, especially when students are engaged and learning is always a priority in the classroom.
