Communication Design 1: Billboard design

Objective:

This homework assignment aims to challenge students to extend the visual and conceptual elements of their previously designed magazine to outdoor advertising by creating three distinct billboard designs. Students will develop headlines that encapsulate the essence of their magazine content and employ effective visual communication strategies to engage and captivate a broader audience.

Concept Development:

  • Brainstorm and sketch at least ten ideas for billboard designs that draw inspiration from your magazine content.
  • Experiment with various visual compositions, typography treatments, and headline concepts to convey the essence of your magazine compellingly and memorably.
  • Consider how each billboard design can capture attention, communicate a clear message, and resonate with your target audience.

Headline Creation:

  • Develop headlines that succinctly capture the essence of each billboard design.
  • Ensure that the headlines are attention-grabbing, relevant to the magazine content, and aligned with each design’s overall theme or message.

Design Execution:

  • Select three of your most robust concept sketches and develop them into digital mockups using graphic design software.
  • Pay careful attention to each design’s typography, imagery, color scheme, and overall visual hierarchy.
  • Ensure that the billboard designs effectively communicate the intended message and evoke the desired emotional response from viewers.
