It’s been more than exciting seeing how the NYTM functions on the Education Department side. As for the education department, it’s a small group of 10 running the department and not part of the MTA. In addition, as well the museum is a non-profit organization that is located in Brooklyn at the corner of Schermerhorn Street & Boerum Place. Where the primary business is having visitors see firsthand a decommissioned underground station.Filled with photo galleries and interactive train carts/buses.Where most of the visitors are tourists, school groups, and train fanatics. First opened On July 4, 1976, but was only In the mid-90s that MTA assumed control of the Transit Museum (Not the education department) from the New York City Transit Authority. Once that happened did it truly become the museum it is today because it expanded to include other aspects of transportation services within the MTA region. This includes commuter rails such as Metro North, Staten island railway, and the long island railroad. As for recent news about the NYTM, there was an article written recently on April 14th,2023 ” OLD CARS WEEKLY” about the famous festival of vintage buses and surface vehicles that returns on June 10, 2023. Where guests can explore vintage buses representing more than 90 years of New York City surface transit history. The second recent news article I found was on April 5th, 2023 which covers the Subway Nostalgia event that takes place this coming August and encourages tourists to visit the vintage Subway carts. Overall giving reasons as to why it’s a must-see event since it’s once a year.
