Goals

  1. Goal Accomplishment

The goals intended to be accomplished by this group assignment were the following: to research how cancer affects the Bay Ridge community; to explore different means of prevention; and to instruct residents at Harbor Hill Senior Center, Sunset Park Senior Center, and Shore Hill Senior Center on how to reduce their risk of acquiring cancer. Collaboratively, the group decided to focus the project specifically on cancer and prevention because of how widespread and important this disease is throughout the Bay Ridge community. The goals of prevention were accomplished most directly through the research which culminated in a presentation that our group made on breast cancer. Specifically, by focusing on key topics such as finding cancer early, limiting alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, being at a healthy weight, and being physically active, the group was effectively able to raise awareness and help residents discover simple lifestyle changes that help reduce the risk of getting cancer. With careful research and an organized presentation on nutrition, the group accomplished the goal of providing practical steps and tips regarding how to stay healthy and keep a well balanced diet. We were able to accomplish our goals by working with the staff at Shore Hill Center for Older Adults, our Clinical instructor, my other fellow colleagues and most importantly the seniors at the center. The goals were accomplish by presenting four scheduled health presentations. The subjects of these presentations are the following: Nutrition, Breast Health, Fall Prevention and Smoking. By interacting with the adults at the Center we cared for them by meeting their social, educational and emotional needs.
