How I Use My Website (Chris Brogan)

It is needles to say what an important role does World Wide Web play in our everyday lives. In today’s advanced industrial society more and more people are starting their personal websites. The purposes of doing it can be from the student online portfolio to the professional web store or an online based company. The primary goal of every web page is to gain visitors and a lot of them.

In order to understand how does a web site works, it is important to know something called “information architecture”, which is the foundation of good web design and development. IA- is “the structural design of shared information environments – the art and science of labeling and organizing websites -emerging community of practice focused on bringing principles of design and architecture to the digital landscape.” (isbn 10; 0-321-70352-9). Important parts of site also are: the content, visual design, code, usability and quality testing of the site.

I will talk more about more concrete on the other aspects of web site managing in my upcoming posts.

UX & Statistics (3/10)

FACTS FACTS

User Experience design is closely related with Statistics.  It is  all about the user-side of the interaction. Without the surveys and questionnaires and,  later ,  sorting the information,  and later making conclusions of the given results, there would be no progress of any kind and would just be a great mess of lost data. Therefore, people behind Statistics are very important and recently, in today’s industrially developed society and everyday changing technology, they also need to have as well artistic eye on making tons of sorted data – beautifully looking. Why? Because that’s what the society requires – people came to the level when they want to see perfection in everything. Well, computers are doing human’s orders, and humans are not perfect, therefore, we can only try to come a step closer to perfection.

On the other hand, from the UX point of view, all the User Experience designs are based on the results of the Statisticians. They study  questions, like what age groups like what and, what products/colors/trends are more popular and why- this in its turn will bring about the Advertising design, another interesting metaphor to explore 🙂

For the ending, please check out the video about funny way of explaining how  statistics  work and about the nature of User Experience design.

UX & Psychology (2/10)

User Experience Design is tightly connected with the Psychology , they coexist together.

They both share the study about subconscious mind and visual perceptions. Psychology helps User Experience Design  to create balanced images and website layouts.

After the web definition, psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors. Throughout the history, science make to attempts to explain emotional states of mind.

“According to Piaget, cognitive development begins with a few basic schemes- plans of action to be used in similar circumstances.   Emotion is a state involving physiological arousal, a cognitive appraisal of the stimulus that brought about the state, and an outward behavior .”

Please check out this video about the EMOTIONs & Design

User Experience design is also about the beauty and functionality. It is about the online display of the material, product, online corporation identity. It is about reflexive design. The way people would perceive one of the other visual presentation of the product, layout/color model and would respond to it by  understand it and therefore liking it.

UX & History (1/10)

The discipline of UX design includes both: previous knowledge and practice with its rules and ways of doing things (rules of design) and the new modern, improved ways of making web responsive and device independent. Please check out the video by UXPin on the history of UX, in case when you are one of the people who prefer watching to reading 🙂

User Experience on the display is mostly associated with the successful corporations as Toyota, Xerox, IBM,  Apple Macintosh, who started the new Iphone and mobile revolution. Steve Jobs in 1983  was talking about how at that time 36 y.o.  computers will completely change and maybe take over the human life;  people were not much likely to believe it, however, today we can see that his predictions are clearly up and running, and today’s websites are exciting and pleasant, stylish and educational, with the comfortable level of usability.

I will be posting more of the interesting facts on UX design history and hoe did it evolve in the recent years. Also I would post on the future predictions of UX design.

Online ads: Only good when you are welcomed.

140210.popupads

Firstly, as a guest post, I hope this will be welcomed here.

At the end of the day, an effective online advertising campaign is  all about  results and cost-effectiveness. Advertisers want to make sure every dollar they spent will make their brand, or at least their message stay longer in customers’mind. And in order to achieve that, online advertisement would have to deal with  computer users’ experience.

As an internet user, what would come in your mind when talking about online advertising? I guess that would be banner ads with flashing headlines and pop-ups that get in the way of your browsing. A lot of brainpower has gone into  to those right-in-the-face ads just for one purpose- generating more clicks. And unfortunately, the most sought after clicking in this case is the skip button. Ask your friends if they can even recall one of those interrupting ads they just saw 5 minutes ago. You will find how pathetically online advertising fails in term of making impression and grabbing attention from the viewers.

The answer lies in hitting the right point in time when online viewers are most receptive so that your ads won’t aggressively interrupt their online experience. As a result, there would be a much better chance they will recall your brand, and most importantly, take action. Now ask your friends about a memorable Super Bowl commercial. I’m sure you will get more than one answer. It’s because millions of dollars are spent to grab that receptive frame of mind.

That’s the strategy. But how about the creativity? What if you show up at the right time with a tasteless ad? It won’t do you and your product any good either. I like to think about it in this way: Know the user experience’s bias, but focus on enlightening them with your creativity and imagination.

Mission

The mission of  this blog is to bring together people who is  interested in studying, researching and analyzing User Experience Design as a discipline, which fully encompasses traditional human-computer interaction (HCI) design, and extends the interaction by addressing all aspects of a product or service as perceived by users.  User experience is any aspect of a person’s interaction with a given IT system, including the interface, graphics, industrial design, physical interaction, and the manual.

User experience Design blog is writing for  people, who are interested in exploring the field of UX and want to gain more interesting knowledges about it. I would like to explain how important this field is, making the emphasis on how important it is for machines to become more and more user friendly, since today it is not on option but a necessity to be able to feel comfortable, “living online” , especially when  the nearest future  is all about super fast   development of new technologies. I want people around the world to be able to use my blog for educational and inspirational purposes. The future of User Experience Design is inevitable in today’s society with its technological and digital development. Currently there are so many users around the world who connect with each other and spread their creative ideas, and share their researches and experiences with people from similar field of interest and UX designers’ mission is to help make people’s interactions enjoyable as much as possible.
