1.HEARTSHARAE: Human Services of New York – Brooklyn NY
HeartShare empowers people with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives. It was my friends’ and my volunteer public health project where we educated and teach disabled adults oral health. That was an unforgettable experience for us, especially very emotional was the fact when the program leader mentioned that one lovely man, who had never shown any interest and never participated in any activities in previous programs, he responded to us, tried to clean the teeth, even smiled a lot ( which he never did before) and also took pictures with us. We were very proud and very happy that we were able to do that.
2. P.S.95 PUBLIC SCHOOL
For Service Learning Project our group visited a public school in Brooklyn and met 2nd-grade students, which was a gifted and talented class. The kids were very talkative and asked a lot of questions. There were 32 students in the class. We found out that 14 of them did not brush their teeth and rest 18 students brushed their teeth 1x a day, So our group had an opportunity to teach and educate young kids how to brush the teeth correctly, taught about nutrition and what is healthy for their teeth and by singing educate young children on their dental health.
