Growing up inBrooklyn,New York; I’ve witnesses many community issues [gun violence, discrimination, ect] that weren’t thoroughly addressed or did not receive the proper resources. The streets began to get the best of our youth. Corners became the new hang out spots, selling drugs became the hippest hobby, and teenage pregnancy became a trend. Apart of a freshman class of one hundred and forty to a graduating class of one hundred and twenty from the High School for Public Service, I realized receiving a high school diploma was no longer at the top of everyone’s priority list. Attending college wasn’t just a choice I chose to make. With the guidance of my family, I knew attending college was expected of me. Wanting to pursue a career as a School Social Worker, I decided to major in Human Services at The University of Bridgeport. ThoughConnecticutwasn’t a great distance fromNew York, I’m a city girl and life inBridgeport,Connecticutwas too slow for me. After completing three semesters at The University of Bridgeport, I decided to move back toNew Yorkand here I am studying Human Services at New York City College of Technology.
