BUF 3310: Luxury Designers and Contemporary Markets

Course Description: Examines the aesthetics of major fashion designers from the 19th to the 21st centuries through lecture and study of museum clothing collections. Students will gain knowledge of historic fashion influences with application to contemporary and future fashion apparel.

Luxury Designer Profiling:

Select an international luxury designer of your choice. Research his/her business journey, what makes this designer an icon, what are the highs and lows of the business journey, what are the differentiating characteristics (USP) of this designer, and what would one piece of advice you would give to the marketing director of this brand? Submit as a PPT, use images, proper citations, be concise, be creative, and present with clarity.

Create a luxury brand with a brand name and tagline, create a color palette, USP, identify/personify your ideal target buyer (2 profiles), strategize your communication strategy, and where do you see your brand in the next 5 years. This is a group project, use APA citations, be creative, present with clarity, and use images.

Profile of a Contemporary Designer:

Please choose a luxury brand of your choice and share details on each point. Inception of the brand, brand structure in the next 30 – 50 years, designers who have joined the brand, retail boom nationally/internationally, timelines of international expansions, key categories, major challenges the brand faced and managed across their PLC, points of distinction/major successes, major scandals and how they were handled, current market competitors, shift from the inception to its current positioning, one major international campaign.
