During my time in the program, I have acquired the skills that will undoubtedly enhance my ability to succeed in my career as a hygienist. They allow me to accurately assess, develop treatment plans based on these assessments, and administer the best and most effective treatment. 

 

  • Medical/Dental Health History/ BP Screening: Review the patient’s medical history and vital signs to understand the patient’s health condition better and appropriately prepare for and respond to emergencies.
  • Head and Neck Examination: A comprehensive examination of the head and neck region can provide signs of an ongoing condition, which can then be addressed with the patient and provide them with the best care 
  • Oral Cancer Screening: A comprehensive intraoral screening to assess for suspicious lesions
  • Dental/Periodontal Charting: Detailed charting of existing teeth, restorations, condition of gums, and supporting structures to provide a comprehensive dental treatment plan 
  • Expose / Interpret Digital Radiographs: Expose different digital images, such as FMS, HBW/VBW, PA, and Panoramic radiographs, to better evaluate a patient’s teeth condition and pathology.
  • Intra-oral Photography: To document and educate the patient. 
  • Dental Prophylaxis, Scaling, and Root Planing: Thorough removal of Supragingival and subgingival calculus to remove pathogenic bacteria and associated toxins to promote and maintain the patient’s oral health.
  • Oraqix, Local Anesthesia, and Nitrous Sedation: The use and application of topical and/or local anesthesia or nitrous oxide to manage pain during dental procedures and provide patient comfort. 
  • Use of Arestin: Assessment and Placement of Arestin antibiotic medication to eliminate pathogenic bacteria in the periodontal pockets, enhance healing, and reduce the probing depth of the pockets.
  • Pit and Fissure sealant placement: Assess patients’ caries risk and place sealants as necessary to prevent caries. 
  • Engine Polish and Fluoride Application: Removal of stains post scaling, followed by application of fluoride varnish to help prevent decay 
  • Placement of Periodontal dressing
  • Suture Removal: Evaluation and removal of sutures on follow up visits.
  • In-Office Teeth Bleaching: Cosmetic treatment to whiten teeth post oral prophylaxis 
  • Alginate impressions and Fabrication of Bleaching trays: Taking impressions and pouring stone models to cast models. Fabrication of bleaching trays for cosmetic treatments for home use
  • Intra-oral scanning with Itero Element 3D and Lumina scanner: Capturing and creating 3-dimensional digital impressions for patient education, appliance fabrication, and appropriate treatment. 
  • Expose 3 D / CBCT Scans:  Exposure of highly accurate 3-dimensional X-rays for diagnosis and treatment. 
  • Active Invisalign care 
  • Active Orthodontic care
