Book Covers
Themes of Psychoanalysis
FBA. – Ferrand, Bicker & Associados, Coimbra, Portugal, 2010
These book covers are a series based on, as the title states, themes of psychoanalysis. Each book represents a distinct theme. Also each book has its own color. The covers use simple font and design. This surprisingly makes them stand out from the more complex covers. The clean design gives each book a familiar and friendly feel. At the same time the design ties the books together. This allows them to be easily identified as a collection.
Exley
Keenan Design, London, England, 2010
This book is about a 9-year-old boy who is trying to unravel the mystery of his father’s disappearance. The letters of “Exley” are used to create an abstract image of a face. The “e” on the top left is an eye; the “x” is another eye. The “L” is a nose and the other “e” is the moth. The “y” is the chin and the neck. Altogether the face looks like a confused child.
Decoded
Rodrigo Corral Design, New York, New York, 2010
This book is a memoir of the rapper/businessman and hip-hop culture icon Sean “Jay-Z” Carter’s life and his views on certain topics. The cover is very abstract but with simple colors. The white makes it look clean and the gold gives off a regal look. The gold design is fluent and open for interpretation. This seems to be share a parallel with the hip-hop industry’s creativity.
