Below are case studies that I have individually attended, and they should provide an understanding into my capabilities as a healthcare professional.
This case study focuses on a 68-year-old female whose main complaint is swollen, sore gums caused by her dentures. This patient, in particular, is subjected to a variety of drugs to treat a number of systemic illnesses. Some of her key drugs, such as Amlodipine for hypertension which has a potential dental adverse effect called gingival hyperplasia, which could identify the reason behind her swollen gums, in addition to her daily denture use. Patient has been wearing dentures for 50 years as a result of an accident when she was 18 years old and lost 70% of her teeth. Homecare consists of brushing dentures with a regular toothbrush and toothpaste and sleeping with dentures every night, causing extreme discomfort and pain throughout the day. Patient additionally gets moderate xerostomia as a result of her drug Janumet for her diabetes type 2.
This case study focuses on a 29-year-old Hispanic individual with very limited access to health care, including no PCP. The patient’s primary issue was generalized bleeding gums and discomfort to both gums and teeth. Patient hasn’t had a cleaning in over two years owing to a lack of English proficiency. This patient was diagnosed with abdominal cancer in 2018 and received chemotherapy for nearly a year. The patient also stated having appendicitis and having their appendix removed in 2023, as well as a chest x-ray, and is smoker.
