Discussion questions:
- Is this image really illustrative of how we are in relation to technology? Does the image suggest that we control technology or that technology controls us?
- What kind of cable is this and why might that matter? An ethernet cable? A power cable? How does this affect the message of the image?
- What is the first thing people tend to do in the morning?
- Why are there two sides when it comes to thinking about social media? Why are some cynical, thinking it divides people? Why do others see it as bringing people together?
Wortham uses narrative throughout the course of her story to explain the origin of the selfie. I believe she chose to use narration in her article to make it more interesting to the reader. I also personally feel that she just chose a narrative as the writing form of her choice. Wortham thinks people post selfies as a way of life in this new technology world. Its a norm now. From the first selfie (no matter who did it first) until now the selfie broke the internet and it will be here for years to come.
