Week 11

This week, I was assigned to create a holiday email newsletter using Mailchimp for one of our clients, “Kept Organic”. It was probably the most challenging thing I had to do so far but I was able to get it together and with my supervisor’s approval they were able to send it out to the people that want it.

I was also assigned to create logo for another client named James B Samuels. We were asked to make the logo have a sense of self discovery and to use a compass as the client is a personal trainer/life coach. I created my first draft of these logos already and they are waiting for review from my supervisor.

NYC 311 App Review (Week 10)

The NYC 311 app is an amazingly convenient addition to the app store for New Yorkers. The app serves as an alternative to calling 311 to report something. It has many different features and notifications to inform the user about the status of schools and garbage pickups in your neighborhood.

The app allows you to put in requests to do certain things like report a malfunctioning traffic light or an open manhole that needs to be addressed. It serves as an alternative to calling 311 if you choose.

They have a preset of options that allow you to streamline the process.

Overall, this app is a worthy alternative to calling 311. I believe this is an app worthy to download and wish to be an active member of the NYC community.

ZocDoc App Review (Week 10)

ZocDoc

ZocDoc is an excellent app that allows its user to find a doctor near your location. You create your profile on the app and based on your insurance information. The app has many features that allow you to learn about the doctors in your area.

Additionally you can filter out doctors based on your insurance policy, if it is in/out 0f network. You can also filter out what kind of doctor you may need and access the contact information of the doctor you may want to see.

They have a new feature where you can video chat with a doctor if you don’t feel comfortable with an in person visit.

Overall, ZocDoc is an app that I feel should be a part of your app inventory. It is a convient app that allows you to find heathcae professionals no matter where you are.

Week 9

This week, we attended the Nassau County Museum Exhibit Blue and also the Digital Museum at the Cooper Hewitt during class. One piece that stuck out to me during our virtual Tour was the Drawing, World Trade Center Transportation Hub, New York, NY: Sketch, ca. 2014. watercolor and graphite on white wove paper by Santiago Calatrava.

This is the architect sketch of what the building was supposed to look like an angel spreading its wings. It is a sketch of a structure called “Oculus,” but is more commonly referred to as the World Trade Center Transportation Hub. The reason why I chose this piece was it’s elegant look that makes it look like a bird flying from the ground. It is a drawing of the building located in New York City by the World trade center.

The next piece that caught my eye was from Avis R. Johnson:

This is a button from the Cooper Hewitt: Design and Democracy exhibit. I could not find any more info about this button, but it stood out to me because of how it uses bright colors to send it’s message. Also it’s message can be applied to today’s political climate depending on how you feel. The button itself is quite small but its use of color make’s it’s message loud and clear.

Week 8

This week I have been assigned to create an email newsletter using Mailchimp. It is proving to be very difficult since i have never worked with Mailchimp before. Fortunately, I have help from the other interns in the agency. I have made good progress in the instagram posts I made previous and have incorporated feedback from my peers and creative director. I am really enjoying the work that I have created so far for this company. They also assigned me to create a Facebook banner and profile picture for a theatre production company called Breakthrough Theatre Company.

Week 7

This week I continue to work on the projects given to me. One such project is a series of instagram posts for a small business cleaning service called Kept Organic. They were a series of carousel instagram posts that cover cleaning hacks and games for kids. I handed in my first draft for this project and I am waiting for review from the Creative Director.

Week 6

This week I watched an event livestream called “The State of Black Design”. It was a livestream that was setup in the way that various speakers from different locations. They discussed how the design industry is lacking in black talent. They also discussed how design matters more now than it ever has and how black design is starting to change because of the current state society. It reminds us that the need for black talent in the design industry is urgent.

Week 5

I started my new internship with 3:5 Creatives this week. They are a creative agency full of various talents that focus on creating digital content. I have undergone the onboarding process where they run through how their business is set up. They use a program called Basecamp for communication, schedule deadlines, and give tasks to others. They have asked me to work on researching Mailchimp and see if it is a platform that I can work on. I also helped to work on the second draft on the wireframe for a fitness website called Revo.
