GRADING CRITERIA

The final grade for this course will be determined by the grades each student earns on the following projects and assignments. The grading is done using a numerical point system with each gradable assignment worth a certain maximum number of points. The maximum numerical value that is possible exceeds 100, allowing a student to make up for a weak showing in one area with a stronger final project.

PROJECT BREAKDOWN

Project 1: Audio Project – Spotify or Pandora Advertisement
(Worth 10pts)

Create an audio commercial that can play on an online radio station such as Spotify or IHeartRadio.

You can pick any company or non-profit organization to be the subject of your commercial. Additionally, the commercial may be tied to a specific theme like a holiday or special sale.
You are to create different versions/variations of the same commercial.

Requirements:

  1. One thirty-second (maximum) audio only advertisement.
  2. Three (3) preliminary scripts for the final advertisement.

Deliverables:

  1. Final audio only advertisement. Wav file format at 48kHz
  2. Completed project directory containing all audio files used to create the final project along with the project file. Include a text files of your final script.

Project 2: Animated Gif/ HTML 5/CSS/JQuery Project – Google Doodle
(Worth 15pts)

Doodles are the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the
Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and
scientists.

For this project, you will design your own Google Doodle around a theme of your choice. Your project must incorporate at least one user-activated interaction and one passive, looping animation. Finally, you will use create an HTML document to showcase your Doodle, along with its title and a brief paragraph explaining your concept and process.

Requirements:

  1. One triggered (user-activated) sequence animated
  2. One passive, looping animated sequence
  3. A “showcase” website with the doodle, title and brief explanation of your process and concept. No templates are allowed.

Deliverables:

  1. Final showcase website.
  2. Completed project directory containing HTML, CSS, and any other dependent files
  3. 20+ concept/thumbnail sketches –  digital or analog
  4. Polished comp layout – digital

Project 3: Video Animation Project – Social Media Ad or Explainer Video
(worth 20pts)

Animation has been a storytelling medium for mankind since the first cave dweller realized they cold make hand puppets using nothing more than their hands, fire and the cave wall. Once the domain of highly trained specialists modern animation tools have made it so that anyone can use animation to deliver cool, insightful and fun animated content.

Requirements:

  1. One Product Ad or Explainer Video. Technically, these are sometimes the same thing.
  2. Duration 30 seconds to 1 Minute
  3. The animation must include either a VO (Voice Over) or BG (Background) music. For the Explainer video you will probably need both.
  4. A “showcase” website with the video, it’s title and a brief explanation of your process and concept. No templates are allowed.

Deliverables:

  1. Final showcase website.
  2. Completed animation project as an MPEG-4 using the h.264 codec — length 30sec to 1min
  3. Dimensions — Instagram Feed Square (1080px X 1080px) or Instagram Feed Vert (1080px X 1350px)
  4. 20+ concept/thumbnail sketches –  digital or analog
  5. 2 sets of storyboards

Project 4: Video Editing Project – Interview or Brand Sizzle Reel

Requirements

  1. One Interview or Brand Sizzle Reel.
  2. Duration 1 – 3 Minutes
  3. The Videoproject must include either a VO (Voice Over) or BG (Background) music or the interviewees audio. For the Sizzle Reel video you may need both.
  4. A “showcase” website with the video, it’s title and a brief explanation of your process and concept. No templates are allowed.

Deliverables:

  1. Final showcase website.
  2. Completed Video project as an MPEG-4 using the h.264 codec — length 1 – 3 minutes
  3. Dimensions — Instagram Feed Square (1080px X 1080px) or Instagram Feed Vert (1080px X 1350px) or YouTube 1080HD (1920 x 1080)
  4. 10 concept outlines/ideas
